hey guys. im new here and have a few questions regarding Strider Folders. I have handled a few of them and really liked them but are they worth the money? I also have a tom brown tracker that has been re ground by a local knife maker, would i be able to trade this for a used SNG? also what is a fair price for a used RW-1? thanks guys

I like them, your mileage may vary.

I have 2 SnG's and a PT and I'm asking for a Strider for Christmas. Some people hate them, others like myself love them.

They do hold their value pretty well so if you don't like it you could sell it for nearly what you paid for it.

The knives are solid, no question in my mind. I own an SnG and a PT. Are they worth the money? That is subjective and can vary from one person to the next. In my mind, the $400 the SnG costs can be used to purchase a much nicer knife, made of similar materials and with much better Fit and Finish (Trigger Maze or Umnumzaan for example). The history behind the knives is something else that seems to turn people off. If you search you can find threads outlining what I am refering to.

ok thanks guys. I have definatley grown on owning a strider. Will i be able to trade my tom brown tracker for a RW-1 or SNG? how much cash will i need to throw in with it? thanks again for the help.

I've owned a couple of SnG's and had to sell them. I would ge another, so 1+ for me.

You can find an SnG on the exchange from $375-$400, not sure the value of the Tom Brown tracker. If you can be a little patient, I am fairly certain you will be seeing a couple popping up in the next week or so on teh Exchange ;)

I own three folders and the SnG is one of them.
I doubt you'll get one with the trade of the Brown tracker.

I have an SnG and an SMF.

The SnG is barely used, basically because I cannot decide if I like it enough to keep it, so I don't want to use it and detract further from it's value. The fit and finish is very good, the blade is centered, it opens smooth, and has ZERO bladeplay. A very, very solid knife.

The SMF is one of Peter R's SMFs that he saved from the fire. I am deciding on it yet. The warranty is gone, so that is one thing. It wouldnt really be fair to Strider to comment on it, because it has been tampered with, but it is not nearly as nice as the SnG, for a variety of reasons.

Are they worth full retail? IMO, NO. A nice used one may be worth it though, if you can find a good price. They are very solid knives.

A search here can alert you to various issues with the company and it's owners.

Does anyone know how many posts you must have befor you can post on the exchange?

There is NO requirement to buy from the Exchange, but if you are referring to selling knives on the Exchange you need to upgrade your account to Gold Member.

I own a Strider SnG and love it!

I would NOT buy brand new though. I really don't think they are worth their Brand New Sticker Price.

ok. well i dont want to pay to be a member so do any on you guys know where i can find a used rw-1 or possibly trade some fixed blade knives for one? this forum is awsome.

It's funny you mention that because I have been looking for an SNG myself. It's been a little frustrating. Brand new price is right around $400.00. But so far just about every one I've seen for sale used is asking exactly that or even more. I have yet to see one for a reasonably discounted price due to use.

I don't get it. Why would anyone pay full price or more for a used one when they can get a brand spanking new one for virtually the same price or less?

I'll probably buy new unless something comes up here fairly quickly.

you are permitted to buy or trade here, just not sell without the proper membership.

ive owned probably 6 strider folders over the last few years, and always end up selling them. i like them, but have yet to own one that i love to carry.

BP Green - I see one in the sales section going for almost $75 off retail. There are different SnG models, some are $400 and some (the dgg and cc models) cost $475.

I'll go sorta against the norm here. I just purchased a new SmF from KnifeArt. I bought the stonewashed blade/frame with ranger green G10 in the regular lego handle. I like the chunkiness of it for some reason.

The blade was perfectly centered upon receipt, and lockup is right around 40-50% on the bar, right about where it should be. The blade stop hits the Ti side first, just as it should. I am definitely pleased with the purchase.

The only reason I paid full price for a new one is that they had the style I was looking for, and that I had recently sold a knife of equal value, so I wasn't out an additional money. KnifeArt shipped the knife quickly, and had a lower shipping charge than TrueNorthKnives, another vendor who stocks a lot of Striders.

I plan on keeping this one for a while, and have a Vess Leather sheath being made for it, which should be ready by next week. Value versus cost is highly debatable, so I say if it's what you are looking for and satisfies your desire for a Strider, then the dollar cost is negligible.

CC SnG's and DGG SnG's cost more... Digi blade coating will also cost more...

That $400 new price is for a Lego grip, tiger striped or stonewash blade.

Do I think new Striders are worth their sticker price? Yes, and no  I like the SnG design a lot for EDC, it has a lot of features I like in a EDC blade. So when I saw the very one I wanted, I paid full price $500 for my Digi camo double gunner ranger green SnG.

It's light, tough, has a hell of a grip, rides in the pocket great due to the weight and how thin the knife is.... The digi coating looks great, and protects the blade, as would stonewashed... (I have enough stonewashed, so I wanted something different)

If I didn't "want" that very one, then no the factory price is about $100 too high IMHO... But I am happy having the very one I wanted and also knowing that EVERY mark on her was made by me :D

I would start off with a used one at a good price, then decide if you like them. When or if your ready to buy a "keeper," buy the exact one you want. I'm glad I did, mine is about three years old and I still love it just as much as the day I received it. It's also one of the knives I would never give up, much like my BG42 large regular Sebenza, stainless Damascus Sebenza and my double lug large micarta 21. All super great EDCs, and will never see the exchange :)

(just know, most do have a little play... I don't care what anybody tells you ;) After a few months of use, they get the slightest movement, even Mick Strider says it's normal)

$25 for a year for gold to help support the site. It's not a bad deal considering the amount of information on the site. All without ads to boot. You cannot get as much information through magazines that is certain.

According to Peter, when he contacted Strider and explained the story, they were not interested in helping him at all. To me that speaks volumes about the character of the company itself and what they say they stand for. I'm fairly certain that many other companies would be willilng to atleast have a look at the knives and check teh HT and see if they were damaged to the point of not being repaired.
