To the OP - take the time to find out for yourself if you like the knives or not.
I research and solicit feedback to make sure the knife I am ready to buy is not a total piece of junk. I respect the knowledge base represented on this forum.
The Strider Knives company seems to be shrouded in controversy and politics. I've read way too many pages of posts over the years with people getting very passionate about what they like and don't like about them, and not all of it was really knife related.
As others have said - your best bet is to find a user for less than retail and carry/use the knife so you can formulate your own opinions. I owned a SnG and sold it - but only because I found it to be too small. The fit and finish on it was really good, and the blade was centered.
I recently picked up a new SmF with gunner grips and it was also very good out of the box. Fit and finish is impressive, and the blade is centered.
Are they overpriced - I cannot formulate an opinion on that. I do know that the equipment needed to make knives is very expensive, and the skills needed to make them are developed over years (if it was cheap and easy I bet most of the forum members would have their own line of knives - I know I would). Is a chunk of G10, titanium and S30V steel expensive - probably not. They are running a business, and if you take into account all of the bits and pieces that go into setting retail prices (materials, machinery, insurance (health, workmans comp, liability) rent, electricity, marketing, website, payroll, vendors, machinery maintenance, repairs - to name a few - I'm sure the price is reasonable. They are in business to make a profit.
If you get one, use it and post an unbiased review so everyone can add to their collective knowledge. If you have big hands - you may find that the SmF is better suited than the SnG.
