You will need

1 x can of worms
1 x flat screwdriver

open can of worms with screwdriver, wait and see (popcorn is an optional extra)

I will have my popcorn now please :D
I like the design of the FS. It looks like the CRK skinner and the Randall #19 Bushmaster.

Is the Strider knives a can of wormes ???
It seems like if a knife is not Busse then :thumbdn: :D :D :grumpy:

Cheers,

André

Don't you mean: hack and pry the can open with the Strider??

;)

It looks like a nifty little blade, why would anyone need popcorn and worms?
I assume that means they expect a heated debate? Whats to debate?
I looked at the website and saw that they want about $400 for it- little steep.

Yes 400 is a littel steep for a paracord wrapped piece of high quality steel.
I guess that you pay for the design and performance.

André

Yeah, it is probably just the cordwrap that gives me that impression- if it had some nice micarta scales it wouldnt be unreasonable.

Would someone that is in the know please explain to me why Strider uses cord wrappings on their knives? I have tried cord wrapped handles to be uncomfortable, insecure and easily damaged by simple field use. They also fray and mangle to the point you are holding onto a tang in no time. I know they also use G-10, but why do most come stock with the 550 cord?

They use paracord because it's cheap and it looks "tactical".

They have a very loyal following among people who use them very hard so they must be doing something right.

I've always wanted this knife.. its quite an elusive Strider, I dont know anyone whos got one.

I like this knife. I would like it even more if it had some nice textured G10 handle slabs, however.

i'd like to see you anchor a tent or sure up a pack with slabs of G10 :D

honestly, before i got my Warncliffe WP with a cord-wrapped handle, i was very skeptical of them. i thought it would be slippery and that it would be impossible to get a sure grip. after receiving the knife i'm convinced. the wrap is so tight the there is no give. it's not soft or movable in any way. the paracord is streched tought until the handle is every bit as hard as micarta. it's very grippy in all conditions (except KY-showers i'd imagine). i'd say try it before you knock it. i've even owned cord-wrapped knives by other makers but this is different.. if it's possible to perfect the technique then the stridr boys did it.

I'm no expert on fixed blades, and I don't necessarily prefer cords, but I definitely have enjoyed the few I've used. 350 dollars is pretty dang expensive alright, though when I think about how much the big chunk of S30V cost, well, I imagine that's quite a bit of it right there. I've never owned cord wrapped handles, but a friend of mine has and it stood up to abuse. The cords might bother me when wet though.

They make one special-purpose knife that actually makes sense for its intended use; it's called the Tiger... though these Striders are a bit overpriced they have traditionally been made on a custom basis so I suppose the Strider one is a fair deal.

Folks who do the kind of work this knife is designed for will recognize the shape immediately.

I like tenparacord handle and have made a knife myself with this wrap. It is very comfertable to work with and gives you a good grip.

This is the knife.
On the inside of the Jap style wrap is a normal wrap so if you take of the Jap style wrap and use the cord you still have a nice grip like of the EK commando knives from Blackjack.

Cheers,

André
