Strider Knive Model: Tiger

Stone Knife said:
This is completely incorrect. The Tiger is designed in fact to avoid making that cut, which makes a lot of noise and results in a slow slow struggling demise. It's amazing how many so-called knife people know so little about their combat use, yet they like to go on as though they do. No wonder so few actual operators participate in these discussions!

:(

WTF bro, you think you have some kind of secret that only the Dark Ops crowd knows of? I have had to crap in trenches in some of the most untame areas of the world and I have no idea what this knife would do better than another. I guess you must be Super Special Forces to know the secret of the Tiger.

We should all sit down for story time now and be amazed by your intellect. :barf:

LOL!

I clarified what I said about the "video game" aspect in another thread about this knife. It was actually adapted for a video game based on a custom knife that was ordered from Strider. So, other than the custom Piece(s) that exist, this production version is a piece of video game memorabilia.

The last clown who came in here saying the tired old line "if you can guess what it's for. . .blah blah blah :jerkit: " Finally stated that it was basically for stabbing the back, hooking around the spine and severing it for a sure kill :jerkit: :jerkit: (the actual quote may vary)
That was one of the stupidest things I have ever read. :D

Now maybe instead of hinting at this supermeganinjadeathmove, you will finally reveal the "top secret" useage of the knife.

Hey, he could tell us but then he would have to kill us..... I think I will leave the Sentry Take Out duties to him. I prefer doing it at about 400 meters myself. Mr. Miagi say, best defense is no be there.

You know, I keep thinking that I would like to buy a Strider, but every time I get close to pulling the trigger, one of Mick's groupies posts somthing so unbelieveably condescending and laughable that I just can't bring myself to join that club. Also, I've only know a couple of "high speed operators" (one is a hunting buddy and the other is a close friend of my wife's family), and if either one of them were handed that knife, they would piss themselves laughing. :jerkit:

so don't join the club. the greater majority of strider knives are nice.

get a knife for the knife, not the people with which it is associated.

To me the Tiger looks like what United Cutlery/Bud K/Gil Hibben* would make if they actually bothered having the slightest bit of quality in their blades. That is, it's a well made, potentially functional fantasy knife. I'm sure there's people out there who would want the Tiger for just that reason. Not me, and probably not many of us, but there's bound to be a couple. I mean, a UC might look cool (from a distance), but we'd know that it's a hunkajunk. The Strider Tiger isn't a hunkajunk.

Or, you could think of it as a production/midtech version of a custom made mastodon handled, 24k gold inlayed, damascus bladed art knife that costs $5000 and we all drool over.

Nothing wrong with that.

But for use as a knife for anything other than display, the Tiger doesn't have a practical purpose. Anything else is mall ninja, armchair commando posturing.

*I'm well aware that Gil's true custom knives are in fact quite nice and functional, but these aren't exactly commonplace. Gil's best known for the fantasy crap that UC cranks out.

I was in SF more years ago than I wish to say and I can tell you the purpose of that knife was definitely...
comic relief.

You'd just have to an uber-tactical mall ninja to know the secret. Being a special forces operator simply isn't enough to grasp the awesomeness of this knife. :D

Oh hell, if I had money to burn, I'd buy it just to have it, simply because of what it is: A fantasy knife made real. But being as I don't have money to burn, that I've got to make what I have count, I guess I'll have to satisfy myself with more mundane designs. You know: Knives that are actually functional.

/me imagines the looks on his colleagues' faces at work were he to draw a Tiger to slice up an apple... :D

I think the Tiger is for hiding under your uber tactical trench coat while hitting on the 16 year old goth chick at Hot Topic while discussing why Halo is the best game in the world. Oh no.... I have said too much. Sorry let the cat out of the bag guys. Now I will have to take my cyanide pills and go to Mars with David Koresch. On a reall note, thanks for the link Cliff, that is the best real answer so far.

Midget is correct. I am not in the club and have no desire to be. I also like to think of myself as a nice guy. I have a more "low key" Strider and like it. 7 3/4", had a nice leather sheath made for it, very sharp.

Okay wait!!!
The Tiger was adapted for, not designed for, a video game.
The first was made as a series of custom pieces for an individual whom you don't want to have anything to do with.
Its fun to play with. There is a lot of sickness involved in that thing.

Talk to you soon

Mick

Why should we not want anything to do with the guy who designed the tiger? is he annoying, smelly, or vulgar? Or is he a deranged psychopath that is heavily medicated?

Maybe this is where the Striderites get their habit of speaking in mysterious hints and innuendos instead of actually saying something.

I was very tempted by a nice recurve strider that was on the exchange a while ago for a good price, and looked similar to that one. If I wasn't saving up for something special, it would have been mine.

I would like to see a pic of the original custom it is based on.

Ask Mick for it on USN, that would be the place for questions about the designer as well since Mick rarely posts on Bladeforums.
