Strider lanyard hole help

I have recently obtained a Strider SMF (lego) and love it for the most part. I knew the lanyard hole was placed so the tip of the blade crosses the hole. Why this obvious design flaw is there is a different discussion. It is what it is. I like having a lanyard for practical reasons. I tried putting a ring though just one side and that did not work. Does any one familiar with the knife/problem have any ideas for a solution? If you can tell me or point me in the right direction, would appreciate.

im unclear on what exactly you are trying to do.

I think he's talking about the fact that some Strider's are set up so that the tip of the blade "slices" the lanyard hole, meaning if he had a lanyard in there, every time he closed the knife he'd slice it right off. I read some comments on YouTube about that, some had the problem and others didn't.

The only solution that I'm aware of is to gut whatever cord you're using and only thread it through the hole in one of the scales.

Did you attempt to install a split-ring in order to attach a lanyard to that, or did you have trouble looping a length of cord through just one side? Sorry, your post is a bit confusing.

yes, i understand that part.

Yes I did try a split ring through only one scale. The ring still made contact with the blade tip. I think you could thread the lanyard though the holes but it would gradually get cut by the blade. I doubt anyone would be able to speculate a solution. It is the kind of thing I was hoping someone had experience with.

Put a D bail in the two holes from the outside of the handle. Boye folders have this arrangement.

I have the same problem with my Strider SnG. The tip of the blade interferes with the lanyard hole.

Someone had commented that the lanyard is only supposed to be fed through one of the holes, which doesn't sound quite right.

That kind of thing might work. Some sail maker knives (with a fid) have that kind of thing. Have to look at some hardware.

SnG but y'all get the idea...

Even if your blade happens to be centered, you shouldn't have a problem.

I never knew striders had this problem. The only knife I like a lanyard on is a sebezna.. I don't know why, it just looks good on the sebenza. On all other knives I don't care about a lanyard. But for people who do, I don't know why there would be such a design flaw. That is odd.

There is the (less secure) option of dummy-cording the clip. It's obviously not the same but for a lot of situations it is almost as good - depends on how far the knife will go if the dummy cord pulled loose from the clip.

I had the same problem on my SnG. I actually reprofiled the blade just a little bit so the blade does not interfer with the lanyard holes. This is probably not an option for everyone, but for me it solved the problem.

I know exactly what you are talking about, but have no solution except just going through the hole in one scale like has already been said... which for me personally isn't much of a solution.

Split ring won't work cause then the blade will be hitting it.

Good luck and let us know if you come up with something suitable. :)
