I am sure this has been talked about quite a few times. I have searched around quite a bit, but have not found the answers I am looking for. Could someone please explain to me what the differences are between the SNG and the SMF. I am looking at both models, but have not really been able to tell them apart.

Thanks so much,

Adam

As freedom states, it's overall size but basically the same knife design. PT is the smallest, then SnG, then SMF.

Size reference:

Strider SNG.

The SnG's about 4 5/8" closed with a 3.5" blade.
The SMF's about 5" closed with a 4" blade.

The 3/8" difference in closed length might not seem like much, but I think the SnG's much more pocketable. However, if you're going to use a sheath, then the SMF would be the better knife. The 1/2" extra blade can come in handy.

Otherwise, they're pretty much the same knife, just different size. Same Ti frame-lock, G-10 non-lock side, S30V blade, & Hinderer lock stabalizer.

Another reason I prefer the SMF is the cutting edge on the SNG is like....3 inches ISH. The blade length and cutting edge are DEFINITELY 2 different animals on Strider knives.

Very true. The SnG's approx. 3" edge (Don't have one on hand to measure exactly) is OK, but on the smallish side, especially for a knife its size. The SMF's 3.5" edge is definitely more in line with a bigger knife.

As for the OP's question, it's what blade length you want/need & size of closed knife. How are you planning to carry it?

The SnG is a great edc size and very light. But I like the smf better overall. It's easier to grip just the handle or also use the choil. With the SnG I had to use the choil. I carry mine in a sheath, mainly because I don't like to draw attention that I have a knife even though it is legal to carry one that size here. The DDG smf seems to be as thick as a Lego SnG. The dgg SnG's are pretty thin.

SNG cutting edge 2/4...SMF cutting edge 3 1/4 not nearly long enough for

the size of the blade. I have an SMF and have had an SNG. The only thing I

dont like about Striders is the blade length to cutting edge ratio.

I dont use a choil....I'd much rather have the choil area be cutting edge.

Not sure which way I want to go yet. When it is on me it will be in my pocket. I am also looking at the CC models in these. Any pros and cons?

Thanks,

Adam

Word I need to know that as well what exactly are the CC models just rounded edges or what?
