Hey guys first time posting on BF so take it easy on me :p

I've been wanting to get a Strider for a while now so I've been reading reviews n all that but it seems like a lot of these thread are years old so I'm just wondering what has changed on Striders in the past couple of years.

Is the "new" lockup still the current lockup?

If there have been changes, would it justify buying a new knife from a dealer as opposed to a used one on the exchange?

Which version of each knife do you prefer Lego, dgg or cc?

I am leaning towards a SMF dgg or cc as I carry a zt 0300 now and would like the same size knife just a little slimmer.

Thanks guys

I had no trouble with the old lockup.
The new lockup is the current.
Lego, all the way, but that's up to you. You must get them in your mitts and you will know.
The SMF is huge.

I really liked the blade shape, and the ergos of the handle. The CC was my favorite, however, after prolonged use, the sharp points of the handle were not comfortable to me. I don't care about that operator guff, I want a good knife. These are solid well built knives, but not as comfortable as some folders. I will probably get some again, but I think I will round off the sharp areas of the handle next time.

Good to know, thanks
How thick is the handle compared to a zt 0300, I know the smf is a little longer, and I would really like to keep cutting edge while making it easier on my pockets lol

To answer you questions:

I would always keep an eye on the exchange. Especially with Striders. Their warranty is one of the best in the industry, so you can buy them on the secondary market with a fair amount of confidence. Not to mention you can find some seriously good deals. Only issue with Striders on the secondary market is the fact that there are fakes out there.

I have a DGG and CC SMF, and a Lego SnG. The CC is my favorite mainly because it slides into my pocket easier. The DGG isn't necessarily any thicker, and I actually believe it's lighter than the CC, but the texture is so rough that it snags the fabric of my pocket.

I really like lego in the SnG's, and totally dig the SMFs in CC. I just have new Lockups, and no issues with them.

thanks for the link
I've been checking the exchange pretty regularly, man Striders go fast!
It will be a while til I can free up the funds to buy one either way, and it'll be closer to next spring before I actually get one lol
As far as steel goes, is there much of a difference between each that Strider uses?

I'm very happy with my Lego sng. I bought it on the exchange. New lockup, it's rock solid. Carryingit now.

More questions keep popping into my head lol
As far as grind goes, how does cutting with a ffg compare to the hollow grind? Is there a large difference with the primary bevel thickness at the edge?
The ffg is obviously a better slicer, but what about thicker matl like cardboard?
Which one works better for chopping?
I'm not saying I do these things on a regular basis but its good to know what it can handle lol

I prefer lego for both. I would not call the SMF huge but IMO the SNG is "perfect" EDC size.

Only had mine a week, and have only opened mail and sliced apple's with it and maybe s few other things so I can't really say much about cardboard or chopping. Mine is s30v.

Brand new striders now come with a carbidized lock face. As far as hollow vs full flat grinds, hollow ground blades in my experience, slice better for shallow cuts, but once you get to the thicker portion of the grind, they are having to move too much material out of the way. Full flat ground blades are good overall. Good slicers, good choppers, etc, but font particularity excell at one thing in particular. I own an sng dgg and an sng Lego, and prefer the Lego. As far as the knife itself, I love it. Very solidly built, great warranty, and in my opinion, a LOT of soul. (Why I choose strider over Chris reeve)

Another option could be the MicroTech DOC which is a collaboration between Anthony Marfione and Mick Strider. It has some of the best elements from SMF in a flipper format. Steel choice is S30V or Elmax and comes in a variety of colors now. It's a big beefy flipper. Only two issues I have with it are the way the clip protrudes too far out making it a little uncomfortable to hold and the proprietary MicroTech screws.

if the stickyness goes away then it wouldn't really bother me
I think a flat grind would suit my needs better, I don't need to pry a lot of anything I my uses
Does the SMF ffg still have a pretty thick tip? Because you never know when it could come in handy

3/4 grinds have thicker tip.

My favorite SnG is my DGG 3/4 grind.
But I really love them all. I rotate from the DGG and the CC full flat grind. The CC disappears in the pocket.

My ffg Sng came with a pretty robust tip. I believe the 3/4 is stouter though.

I have the Gunner grip which wo hard on your hands for any kind of sustained use without gloves but is the thinest and lightest of the jangle options.

My favorite folder to date
