Strider SMF/SnG general wondering

I live in Minnesota so for about 1/2 the year I'm wearing gloves :p if I were in a situation where hard or prolonged use is required I would probably be wearing gloves so that shouldn't be an issue
I've heard that the DGG wrecks pockets, is that true? I've heard but he same thing about the zt 030x series but I've never had a problem other than the "shadow" on the outside of my pocket
Thanks for the pic, that really helps

Just lift the clip a bit with the tip of your index finger when clipping and unclipping to your pocket and you quill not have a problem.

Pic.....

Note: the SMF only offers +1/8" cutting edge over the sng, but is substantially larger in size & weight. Yes the blade is thicker, but that won't help you cut anything.

that's a good point, but with a wider blade the SMF could theoretically have the same primary bevel
But that would lighten the pocket substantially...
Maybe I should start looking into the sng a little more

My advice would be to get a FFG SnG in PD-1. I like that steel and if you sell it later, it will probably sell quicker than S30v, S35v, or CPM154. I like mine, here's an older pic

lol I would like a fixed blade but sadly my state frowns upon fixed blade carry :(
But, there is no legal restriction on folding knives as far as length goes! Hence my ZT 0300 lol
I am leaning towards something not in s30v, I would like to try something different

Just be prepared to get an itch for the whole Strider Family....

Originally picked up an SMF Lego, still have it, but for me it was a bit too big for EDC. Few months later i bought a SNG Lego loved it, but then got a bug for SNG GG. Few months later bought the SNG GG and been carrying ever since (like 6 months now). The SNG GG is very very light and wears very well in the jeans pocket. Just know it take a bit to break the knife in and and also for the knife to break the user in. But once the break in is done, its one hell of a knife. It just feels like a tank/beast of a knife.

As someone else mentioned here, i feel like the Striders have a soul, dark and twisted.
The knife doesn't come in a fancy box with a fancy letter or lube. It arrives in a plastic zip bag, ready to go.
There are many many YouTube videos on the knives. Spend some time hunting....
It's just a matter of time before the knife picks you.

Sounds like I better start saving

But the GG is your favorite?
For looks or grip or just the size or the handle?
I'll probably end up with one of each eventually lol, I just wanna be as informed as I can be on buying my first one

I think DGG is the best of both worlds. Light and thin like the CC, but grippy like a Lego. I just sold my CC. I loved it but the handle was just too slick. As others have said, lift it out of your pocket by pulling out and up on the clip. Saves your pockets. And don't worry about losing any strength because it's a thinner knife, the lock cut out is the same size as the Lego.

I reeeeeally wanted to like my SmF. It's quite obviously the stouter folder. But, IMO, it is a little overkill to carry. Where I am/go fixed blades are not a problem though. ...and I dig a nice fixed blade. The SnG is a lot smaller and an overall great carry. I've had every "flavor" handle and I really dig 'em all. I don't see the $75 being a great value w/ CC or DGG. BUT they are fancier and the blade choil is a tad more comfy. I currently have a Lego and a DGG. In actual USE though people forget that a knife chooses how you grip it, not the other way around. I don't believe that the designer went through a bazillion designs before coming to the design. I think it just happened and it works.

Striders are a constantly evolving knife. The older ones are certainly good knives. I have a super old skool EB-S S30V that very well may be the finest piece of steel in my personal "selection." I've probably owned 20 Striders over the years and there is no doubt in my mind that they only get better with each new "tweak" in design. Suffice it to say I would pick the newest, freshest one you can find... or wait for a screamin deal on the exchange. I've yet to experience the customer service/warranty but it seems you're covered with whatever choice you make.

As far as steel goes...MAN that's one of the cooler things about Strider Knives. They seem to want to play with them all. I really prefer a stainless steel. Right now I have them in S30V, S35VN, CTS-XHP & CPM-154. I have not used my PT in S35VN very much so I can't really speak for that steel. Otherwise I would completely agree with "Ankerson" on the varied performance. You should check out his threads/tests. They are different and I can appreciate them for those differences.

I have yet to be interested in any ZT knife. Mainly because they are heavier and look much more like banged out productions (expensive ones!) than I'm interested in. As a couple of folks have mentioned, the Striders have a "je ne sais quoi" about them.

I really love the ergos of my zt, and imo it's an exceptionally well built knife, I'm just getting over that phase in knife collecting where AO knives are just the "bee's knees"
Since I liked my zt so much i suppose it was only a short leap to the people who worked on its design
That being said, how often do new gens of strider knives come out? I guess the only thing I could see them hanging is the lock bar stabilizer being replaced by the angled lock bar cutout like on the sj-75

I have not owned one, but I have been wanting one also I like the looks and feel of the gunner grips and the SMF is a great size.

Strider was never on my radar and to this day can't reason why I got the itch, but once I started using the SnG it was a pleasure. I started with a DGG, but traded for a CC. (For me) the CC is a better choice. The DGG is certainly grippy, but the design of the SnG alone allows for a great grip on any version. I don't feel they are overbuilt at all, but the blade thickness is not for those that want to push cut toilet paper. The knife is much lighter than it looks and carries well.
