Strider SNG regrind?

I recently bought an SNG tanto from a member here. It looks to be in new/unused condition but the blade was very dull and the tanto edge was so dull as to be a false edge. I spent several hours trying to re-profile it on a Lansky with limited success. It is just too much material to remove with this system. Can anyone recommend someone to re-profile this for me? I think I read a while back that Tom Krein is no longer doing regrinds? I understand it's a hard use knife and not a precision slicer but would like something in between. Thanks!

It sounds like what you're wanting is a good sharpening/rebeveling, not a full-on regrind (which is the sort of thing Tom Krein used to be the go-to guy for). There are plenty of people who will do that for you at a very reasonable price -- singularity35 already mentioned one.

Yeah, probably not a full regrind but it definitely needs a re-beveling. Thanks.

Will Strider not fix it?
The OP clarified earlier in the thread that what he's looking for is a resharpening rather than a regrind, so it's not really an issue of the knife needing fixing. But Strider will, like most companies, gladly sharpen one of their knives if you send it in to them.

I was able to get it hair shaving sharp using my Worksharp to remove the bulk of the material and then my Lansky to finish it up. The edges are still not as pretty as I would like, but it will at least function as a knife now. It is a very rugged knife and it's growing on me. Hell, maybe this is sign that I finally need to pull the trigger on an Edgepro.

Strider sharpening their knives is the issue, I wouldn't send it back in to them. At first I thought my last SMF was "decent" in terms of sharpness, but there were spots of the edge that were almost untouched. It took a serious rebeveling.

Oh, I completely agree. I wouldn't send any of my knives in for sharpening regardless of the company, since I can get vastly better and more consistent results with my Edge Pro.

if you're adventurous, you might look into getting a belt sander. There is a huge thread on the Harbor Freight 1"x30" sander.

I too would be very interested in who is doing full on regrinds these days ? If anyone has any 'fore sure' information as opposed to a guess , please respond ? :)

Why oh why I got rid of it is beyond me, but I had an SNG that Mick Strider put a bead blast finish on, and resharpened it for me. Great work. Again, why I got rid of it I don't know. Their shop might take a while getting it back to you, but it is worth the wait (I also sent it in when they were at the New York custom knife show, just saying :o).
