Strider Sng Vs Smf

I think the biggest bang for the buck for the Strider line is the AR. I have had an RCC after getting the AR and for the price paid well I thought one could do better, like the ZT200 series. Not kidding when I say that. The prices of Striders usually hold there own though. As for the SnG vs SmF one is a bit shorter I believe and one is thinner for a bit better carry. But like I said for the price point I want the knife to mean something and be substantial, like you are getting something for the money spent, hence the AR for me. keepem sharp

I appreciate your sense of honor, alaskanativeson, but being an American, I buy the product that I feel works for me. I don't put stock in hype anyway, I look at specs and features.

Those who recommended a multitool, swiss army knife, or small folder have practical view and are right - but the OP asked "SMF or SnG?" I gave him my opinion based on what I actually know about - IOBC, service to my country, and ownership of a SnG.

I think the OP can make his own decision based on a factual discussion of the knife's merits, not an IED to confuse the issue at hand.

I agree with this completely. The facts of Strider's past is one of the knife's merits I consider worth mentioning. In this particular case, it's the only fact that matters to me. However I completely support everyone's right to make their own judgements.

I would say go with the SMF or even an AR. Contact Strider direct, Mick and the Crew gives a discount to active Military members.

Isn't it always?

I was a Chris Reeve dealer for several years. They are very fine knives with very little mark up by the way. Some of the best features are how they can be so easily taken apart and cleaned and the lack of blade play.

What turns me off about them is the warranty. It just isn't "Strider Solid", maybe they should coin that phrase. CR says not to flick the knife open as it could damage it...sure eventually it might and it isn't always necessary. Much like letting the slide slam on your favorite auto pistol. BUT, what bothered me is they outright said flicking the knife open is abuse...oh, please you have to be kidding right? I don't want a knife that they say was abused because I flipped it open.

I carried a Sebenza for longer than any other knife I have ever owned. But now, I am a Strider guy to the bone. CR does make a very fine tool and there is a reason it has been knife of the year so many times. Furthermore, I highly doubt anyone will break either knife. But alas, I'm a Strider guy.

while imho the SnG and the SmF (to a lesser degree) are great in the pocket i cant say that about the AR or GB, imho they are more at home in a belt sheath, and are really to big and thick for good pocket carry, oh i suppose ya can do it, i did it myself for a while, but it gets old pretty quick, or did to me.

the blade on an SnG or SmF are both plenty long, i dont see any great need for an AR or GB anyway, too much of a good thing imho.

Plus 1.

If your going AR might as well get a fixed blade.

I carry my RG GB in my right front jean pocket no problem. Sure it's more noticeable than my Emerson HD-7, but I don't find it that difficult an adjustment.

As for SMF or SnG, get whichever one feels best in your hand.

yeah i would wager its a tad more noticeable than an HD7 lol.

like i said you can do it if ya wanna, but its not imho a very good pocket knife, really the blade on an AR and SnG isnt much different anyway, IIRC not any thicker and just a tad longer, i dont know that the lock on the SnG and SmF isnt better to boot,
