Strider V.S Hinderer!!! Your opinions and experiences

Hey Jill, it floored me when you said lies about his military service. I met him once at an event. I found him to be genuine in his love for the craft. I'm a retired LEO and usually have a good sense of people. Matter of fact, that's why I bought the knife. I don't want to rehash bad mojo, but what lies?

Here a good closed thread you can read all about it in, for your information. (no posts from me in it)

Thank you Jill. I am sorry my question brought such turmoil. I appreciate your cander in the matter. I will go to that closed thread because I carried that knife for years and Mick was a damn nice guy. If you are not if law enforcement you probably don't understand the attachment you have for your gear.

I'm not but my Husband is (prosecutor) but he just likes firearms to the extent you mention. Since you didn't know the history Strider has here I certainly think you should if you are interested in them at all and wish to read about & understand the whole picture.

Hubby definitely understands. Many of my friends were Florida State's Attorneys and we're in the trenches sometimes, it seemed, as much as I was. Thanks for the direction, and I am truly sorry if these posts caused you any problems here....

No problems here for me. :) Everybody has the right to their opinions. BTW we are probably going to purchase a Hinderer next as they said my Husband can buy one direct. I like to try out any decent brand made in the USA.

I just find it funny that you are so quick to jump to Strider's defense very often.

Btw, for those interested that have not read the full story, here is the link that should be posted by Spark himself:

With that said, I will bow out of this thread.

I'm not defending him at all, I merely have one SMF and it has no issues at all. I always said I never doubted he lied. But, I'm not going to say the one knife I own that's a Strider is a POS because of that, no more than I'll state any other brand is other than what I find it to be. I've heard for years here that Striders have ill fitted locks, come dull, off centered closed and very poor fit and finish. I did not buy one for those reasons. Then I started seeing some people saying, they are much improved and thought I'd buy one. It has none of those issues so I say so. If it had them I'd say so as well. That's all.

I had an SnG and loved it. No lock stick, play, nothing. Sold it because I needed the money at the time. I've heard good and bad things about both Strider and Hinderer. Never hear anything bad about CRK, so my advice is get an Umnumzaan if you want something more "tactical."

I find many of the comments read about Mick Strider on the forum are at best rumors and innuendo. I can certainly see if you have a product from Strider Knives that has a problem you certainly can post it for informational purposes after not receiving any resolution from his customer service. I PERSONALLY know that Mick stands behind his knives 100%. You break it he replaces it..... the end! I'm new around here but I have read several forums were the mods shut down personal attacks, including the one attacking Mick character. I put my butt on the line as a LEO and unless you've been there, I would refrain from commenting on his character. Just my two cents. I thought this place was about sharing our love for blades and supporting the knife community in general, including the manufacturers? 🔪🔫

That's not going to happen here, the owner of the forum posted the thread moshow9 posted. Spark = Bladeforums owner FYI.

Good to know. For the first time since being here, I am well, disappointed. I probably stick to the Spyderco forum from now on. Haven't seen anything like this there.... yet!! 😣

And that's why you should know the entire story, so you can decide. You didn't now you do, information is vital in all decisions.

I would think that as someone who has actually walked the walk, it would anger you to have someone selling products based around a falsified image of military service and grandiose claims of special forces/operations action.

I have no experience with Strider, but I have plenty of Hinderer experience. I have several ZT variants of his designs AND 2 XM-18s (Warnie & Slicer). The ZT models are good, but nowhere near the quality of the direct Hinderer models. I can say that honestly for crasftmanship, sharpness, fit and finish, the boys at Hinderer do an excellent job. I mean it's lean and mean for sure. I am the original owner of both my XM-18 knives and I was not disappointed at all. They are a work of art. Lock up is great, but detent can be "weird" if you're not used to it. It can be easily deployed flipper like or thumb stud or even if you shake your hand side to side hard it will also deploy. I don't mind the detent like that at all, but at first it took me by surprise.

My career was based on FACT, evidence, and logic. I am not going to participate in this discussion any further. Thank you

Nah, the lies from old Mick are a matter of fact.

But the knives are really quite good. :)

I like the knives (well, the folders...not too keen on the fixed blades).

Then my statement stands, because all of the lies Mick told were found out to be lies based on FACT. Have a nice day.

Stick with your Sebenza or do some more research because their are plenty of other good, honest, affordable makers out there.
Hinderer is not worth the secondary market prices and they usually have a weak detent from the ones I've played with. NTM their resale value isn't what it used to be.
Mick Strider's military record is similar to that of Bowe Bergdahl's minus the POW situation and maybe religious views.

So, some get hung up on Hinderer secondary market prices.
Some get hung up on Mick's past lies.

The knives seem to stand on their own merits, once the hang ups are removed from the equation.
