Does anyone have any experience as to how Strider knives stack up to Emerson?

-Fred

Yes, I have a boatload of both. The Striders are outstanding bulletproof tools-period. They are very overbuilt, and designed for totally extreme abuse. Emersons tend to be very easy to carry, are more weapon oriented, and generally very "ergonomic". I can give a perfect example-On duty I am assigned to a law enforcement helicopter, and I carry a Strider custom folder, because it is a good choice for trying to cut and pry through a wrecked aircraft. Off-duty, I carry a Commander-it is fast, flows well as both a defensive weapon, and works good for utility cutting, and it is very easy to carry. Different tools for each mission. I love both, and I can tell you first hand that the Strider guys have a huge level of respect for Ernie and his designs. They are just very different.

Fred, in case nyeti hasn't already hammered this home, you're about to find out that Emerson guys and Strider guys are pretty much the same bunch of guys.
Emerson knives are awesome. Strider knives are awesome. When the sh*t hits the fan, what knife do I want with me? An Emerson and a Strider.
But I'll always open my mail with either a Microtech CTII or Halo III tactical.

They are both no nonsense pieces of equipment. I can basically only second what the other posts have already said. If only they would do a collaboration. I would definitely peel out the visa for that!

I can not agree more with what has already been said. We all already know my feelings on Ernie's work, that having been said, Strider Rocks.

I left a set of legs in this photo of Nyeti and Tamishigiri's collections:

Game Point, and first round to Mr. Hollister..

We'll be right back, after this commercial break for more live coverage of the

Wow! What a great response. The next question is which Strider folder do I buy, and where do I buy it? (and what's a reasonable price)

Thanks.

Fred,
Thats easy...Strider only has 2 custom folders to chose from. A Tanto and a Spear Point. I like the Spear Point.
There is a Strider/Buck collaboration which is also built like a Tank. They come in 4" tanto and spear point as well as a smaller version. Yes the 4" is huge. The Customs run about $375 and the Strider/Bucks run around $150. Cheaper if you look around.

A Strider/Emerson knife? Where do I sign up.

Hi guys,

Just thought I'd add my 2 cents to this thread.

You all know how much I like the Emersons, especially my CQC6, but I have just brought myself a Strider Custom GB Model and thought I'd share a couple of pics.

Enjoy !

Great pics again John. A few of those blades look awefully familiar. I think I may have one or two them.

Hi Derek

Whats the serial # on your GB? I got my GB Strider folder this past week, love it. Its gone back to Strider for re-adjustment , I'm gonna miss it.

dd, great comparison pics! Thanks!

Leo, how long ago did you order your GB? I ordered mine in March, and I'm hoping for it in July. Man, the wait is killin' me! Gotta have one! My AR spearpoint should be a couple of months behind my GB.

Eric

I got mine from a guy who had ordered it sometine last year, but decided to sell it before he received it. I have been waiting 4 weeks from the moment I said I would take it.

I took this hastily before I shipped it back to Strider today for re-adjustment.

...I miss it already.
It is one bad-ass folder. Its the first folder I want to throw about cos it looks like it can take it.

Hi HC, somehow I knew you'd have one of these !

My GB model is No. 65, just after yours I think (That is a 58 I can see isn't it ?).

Why did you send it back for readjustment ? When mine arrived the blade was REALLY tight and stiff, but I had the tools from my shooting days to be able to abjust it myself. Now it is perfect. It was just a case of loosening the pivotscrew a tad, but the slot on the rear of the pivot is non-standard (well by UK standards it is anyway).

Did you get the kydex belt sheath with it ? If not and you can carry openly or usually carry concealled anyway, I can recommend it.

Eric,

Delivery was quoted to me as 90 - 120 days from the date of order, it arrived at my door at exactly 100 days so I'm pleased with it and the delivery.

All we need now is to get the Strider Guys to make a Waved model and we'll have John on board as well.

Rouge Spear,

In my own opinion, the two knives are just as good as each other. Both are bult to be users, they may have different specifics in mind when they were designed and built, but both are definately users. I carry both Emersons and Striders on and off duty and know that whichever one I grab for, it will do what I expect and need of it when the time comes. Yes the Strider is more 'solid' in its construction, if that's the right way of putting it, but as I've said in other threads, I've yet to have any of these makers knives fail on me when I've used it.

Hi Derek
Good eyes

It is #058

My Strider was also REALLY tight and stiff. I lubed the pivot area. I used a hex head to adjust the pivotscrew but it kept on rotating in either direction with minimal change.I also struggled to find a tool to "grip" the slot of the rear of the pivotscrew whilst I tried to unscrew/disassemble the pivot screw.(BTW Mick made mention that he LOCTITEs the slotted bolt)

ps.I have one of those sheaths on order. From what I have read it makes the folder so much more versatile.

I dont think I have a pairs of pants strong enough that'll stand up to the "waving" of the Strider

Comparing the two is almost like (for comparison sake):
