John

This looks similar to the second fixed blade from the top in your first picture?!

Actually I talked with Mick about ordering up one of the Spear pointed Custom Folders at the Blade Show. Oliver and I are also playing with another idea as well.

I have one of the Medium TAD fixed blades (TSed and OD wrapped) on order and am waiting to hear about when they are taking orders on that nasty assed Tomahawk.

The "Bodyguard". Very nice. I was surprised at how light and fast it was for it's size.

Look at those Rhinos, and that Viper, and those 8s.... it... hurts....

On the side, and of you guys wanna loan me $1,800 so I can get Jackstraw's ES1-M? I'm good for it. Honest.

That Strider looks like it would bear up to a LOT of abuse, very tough built tool, and impressive in it's own charmingly Fugly sorta way, but why do all the grip angles have to be so uh, well, uh, however it is that they ARE!
Looks like it was intentionally built to be NON-Ergonomic. (User Hostile?)

I had no grasp of just how big these things were until I saw these pics, and surely it's not as uncomfortable as it looks?

It is always difficult to tell from a picture what a product will feel like. In everyones hands the same product will feel different.
I have small/medium sized hands. It fits very comfortably in my hands.

The Strider is a well thoughout folder that is comfortable to hold.It is built for tough use and it looks like it will not fail it's user. Only a small amount of the purchasers will ever get to use it to it's fullest potential.
It is comfortable in a'sabre' grip as well as in'reverse'(ice pick) grip. There are traction grooves on the rear of the folder to ensure a positive purchase.

A great folder

Fred,

Remember, the Buck Strider is manufactured by BUCK, so you really can't compare it to an Emerson as a "STRIDER".

However, to answer your question, I have a Buck Strider spear point; very durable knife. Great for chores, camp knife, etc.
The scales/handles are rough and have very defined edges.

On the other hand,
I look at an Emerson or a custom Strider, as a work of art, to be carried and utilized as it was meant to be; slicing through a hostile fool's flesh!

(With the custom Strider, you could slice through his bone too!

Can anyone post a picture of the tanto and spear point folders side by side for comparison?

(I can't see why anyone would get a Sebenza with these babies out there)

Thanks.

Ken,

Again I have to agree wih HC Leo, these knives are big by anyones standard, and the first time you handle them you realise thay are not meant for delicate work.

Having said that, they are very ergonomic, I have tried them in every grip I can think of including choking up tight agaist the blade. All the positions seem to work well, and with the gripping surfaces, you are not going to loose your gip on this baby !

ps. The sebenza is a great folder too, its really not fair to compare Strider to any other folder. Each folder has their merits. The purchaser must decide for themselves
which folder will suit theirs needs best. Thats why a lot of us have more than one folder

Just a quick response. As far as comparing the Buck/Strider, I would prefer an Emerson folder instead in that size range. The Strider custom was designed as a folding knife for those who can't carry a fixed blade, but really need one. It is not a very good "pocket" knife, while the Emerson excels in pocket carry. The Strider custom works best in a kydex sheath on the belt, where it is far more discreet than a full size fixed blade. For the comments regarding Striders being "non-ergonomic"-this is based on the Strider experience base both personally and with their serious clients. Dump your Strider in a bucket of 30W oil (to simulate blood), and then see if you still think its not very ergonomic. The Striders are designed for combat level deployment where blood, sweat and chemicals are the rule and not the exception. Mick Strider does have a custom ergonomic handle for those who need something a little softer-

. Overall, these are the two makers I trust my life to daily, and they are both outstanding for their individual mission.

I could not have said it better if I tried.

From a man who knows.

While it's true that you can't tell how it's going to feel by looking, you can USUALLY get a pretty good idea if you've handled a lot of knives before.

BUT!
Hell, if you guys like'em, who am I to say you're wrong? I guess a Strider goes on my list. (Besides, that tiger stripe sandblast looks SO cool!)

Thanks HC,
When? Last night.

How? Spark pushed the Magic Member Transmogrification Button! (Thus transmogrifying my member!)

Why? Well, I COULD tell you that it's because I'm INCREDIBLY well qualified for the job, but since you're asking why in the first place, I KNOW you wouldn't believe me, so instead I'll just say that I was the one dumb enough to say YES!

So drop by the Sword Forum sometime and misbehave, I'm itchin' to lock a thread!
