Strider vs Scrapyard

So, is Scrapyard a subsidiary of Busse? I can't quite figure it out. Are their products only available through their website? I looked at some of their stuff; really nice looking knives, and unbelievably low prices if they are as wonderful as people say they are.

I wouldn't call any of my Scrap Yard knives heavy. Even the really big ones (10 inch blades) aren't what I'd call heavy thanks to the light weight Resiprene-C handles. I don't own any Striders, but I'd pit my Scrap Yards against anything except Swamp Rat Busse.

Yes to all of this. Scrapyard makes good stuff. They tend to be very thick, with very thick edges, they're not great slicers out of the box, but they're tough as the day is long. You can fine tune the edge yourself if you want to trade a little of that toughness for cutting efficiency.

I have to agree that most knives from Scrap Yard have very thick edges and do not slice well.

S30V will never hold a candle to S-7 in toughness, actually most steel types will never hold a candle to S-7 in toughness. And we're not talking about any ordinary S-7, this stuff is Bussekin S-7, which gives it a step up in toughness from the same steel treated by almost any other maker.

Scrapyard all the way.

Strider has been making folders in differet steels lately like CPM 3V, CPM S110V.

Fixed Blades in CPM 3V.

Photos of my SmF CC in CPM 3V.

And it's Hollow Ground so it cuts very well.

So while the bussekin are more tough (there is a video on youtube where scrapyard chops on a few things and bends their Scrapizashi almost double!) the strider will serve as a better all around knife for utility use. Especially with the new steel. My favorite part about knife collecting is getting to try different steels. (well that and chopping on things occasionally on my farm :)) and ankerson i also live in nc and have watched all of your youtube videos; great stuff.

and this monkey edge guy seems to go pretty hard with his 3v db.
