strider vs sebenza decision....

Both are great knives but I find CRK has better build quality.

PS - BOS retired so Strider no longer has this advantage

Bos hasn't been at Strider for a while now but according to Strider they use the exact same process he instituted. That's why I said Bos style. I just sent a blade to Bos today after corresponding with him last night. I know he's retiring but I think he either trained someone to carry the torch or hasn't completely retired yet.

This isn't the place really but I really love how the Strider feels in the hand. It feels VERY secure when working, cutting, batoning, stabbing, slicing etc. The straight handled Sebenza doesn't feel quite as secure and just gives me the willies thinking about how my fingers could slide down the blade if I thrust it into something. Which I won't probably but it's just a mental thing. The Seb does have better F&F though and more responsive customer service (although both companies have done me well).
I do agree though the clip on the Sebenza needs work. I've actually had my Sebenza fall out of my pocket!

I don't have a Sebenza , but I do have an Umnumzaan and a Strider SnG. They appeal to me in different ways, the build quality of the CRK product is a work of art, while I love the SnG design. I can't say I ever compare the two side by side.

the cutting tasks i am willing to perform with any folder are effortlessly achieved with my sebbies. And i dont really need to feel that my folder can repel shrapnel in order to trust it.
But maybe that will change in time. I guess ill hold on to mf strider after all.

I like my sng very much. I like the sng family's shape (pt, sng, smf) very much. THey are just awesome knives. They are definitely different dogs as Lycosa says and as such you should just appreciate them as for what they are: very strong, sturdy and awesome looking sharp things.
 enjoy her!

I won't get an smf as the sng is big enough for me and the smf just looks too much 'killing machine' for me.

IMHO, size alone doesn't make a Strider look like a "killing machine". My SMF is a black CC stonewashed finish and it looks pretty much like the working knife that it actually is. Furthermore, the size difference between an SMF and an SNG is minimal and probably more noticeable to the hand than to the eye.

The only Strider I ever owned was a new SnG that I have since sold. It just didn't do what I needed it to do - which is more slicing than prying.

Also - I had to open and close that knife around 1000 times to get it broken in.

My Large Sebenza was buttery right out of the box, tough, and is a great slicer.

Also - I had problems with my Strider tiger stripe blade rusting. I had to put wax on it to help with that problem. So far - no problem at all with my S30V sebbie. Nothing against the Strider knives - I just came to the realization that as a middle age dude I probably wasn't going to join any spec ops groups any time soon.:D

I like them both, they are just different animals. Reeve certainly takes the cake on higher tolerances based on the limited number I've had from each manufacturer.

Here is my trifecta weekend rotation:

I am shocked that most people prefer the CRK over the Strider in the Chris Reeve forum????

Everytime I use my small 21 Sebenza, I realize how much more I like it over my SNG DGG, then evertime I use my SNG DGG, I realize how much more I like it over my Sebenza, then everytime I use my Sebenza, I realize how much more I like it over my SNG, and so on, and so on, etc.

I carried an SMF-cc for a while and liked it a lot. It's a heavy-duty, fun knife to have. I traded it for a nice Seb (thx Dave) because I really don't have a use for it, and I'll carry the Seb 10x more. The deal made sense for me, but I've got nothing against the Strider.

These are two totally different knives. It's a really hard comparison in my opinion. I own them both and the refined natural of the sebenza contrasts the rugged industrial sometimes sloppy nature of the Strider. They both get pocket time.

QFT!

I just got an SMF,... looks like a tank, built like a tank, I'm now shopping around for a Seb., trying to sell my Socom.

Striders are bomb IMO, I like the rugged MiL look, only issue I have right now is it really needs to be broken in and the pocket clip is extremely tight, wants to tear my pant apart!?!LOL
