A quote from Duane Dwyer on Z Wear Steel - Z Wear is an excellent progression of the original Vasco Wear steel. It is a PM grade produced by Zapp industries in Germany. It is clean, very tough, and finishes well. The question that time will show is "can our community distinguish a difference in this material, CPM3V, and Carpenter PD1." Heat treat variables are extremely relevant in this study so don't jump to one of these materials without great consideration for all variables. They are all excellent materials.
