Hey guys I've really been thinking about getting a strider lately and I'm trying to decide between an SNG and a SMF. If anyone can take a couple pictures of them both in hand and side by side that would be great. Also I'd some peoples opinions of what knife they like better.
I'd also like to know a couple more cost effective knives, that are similar to striders (frame locks preferably)

A couple knives that come to mind are the ZT 0300 but I don't think I would comfortable carrying the 9oz., actually thats about the only other knife I can think of.

I had "STR" do a Ti Framelock on my Buck Strider. One of the coolest knives I own!

I would have to say the ZT200 is about a stout of liner lock as one could ask for. About as thick as some frame locks I have owned. A helluva deal for the price. Look at one of those. It is big though, but I think a better blade design than the 300 series myself. More stream lined looking. Hope this helps, keepem sharp

i have had SnG's and SmF's and i prefer the SnG, though the size differnce isnt much it carries better in the pocket vs the SmF though its not bad, and the differnce in blade length is not enough to worry about,

honestly, i would get a hinderer '18 myself vs either one, though they are a little higher they offer a lot better F&F and i like 'em a lot better, to me they are worth the extra $200, YMMV though.

I don't have both Strider models , but here's a few shots of my SnG. IMO, its the perfect size for EDC and about $100 less than the SMF.

I have and carry both. I prefer there SnG for everyday carry due to it's size. As for other framelocks if you can find an Emerson CQC-7 HD it should fit the bill.

Never handled a SMF, but own the SnG and find it a perfect size for an EDC. The knife is one of the most ergonomical knives I have handled, and is comfortable in a series of different grips/holds. A good alternative would be a Sebe, a large plain scaled version can be had cheaper than the Strider, plus you can have custom scales made up if you want the G10 feel.

If you like a SMF that carries as well as a regular SnG, try a CC or GG SMF. They carry small. The CC SMF you don't even know it's there! With my RW-1, it's a pocketful and rides in my Fastpack so the CC gets the call most days. I piggy back my SMF's with a regular PT for the "smaller" chores. I have a DDC SnG but I like the feel of the bigger SMF or bigger folders in general.

While the SnG/SmF is in a league all its own, an option that comes to mind is the Spyderco Military... I know it is not a framelock, but it is just as good of a knife if not better in a lot of ways. I still consider the Military the best knife made all things considered... If they were the same price, I may lean toward the SnG... maybe. The military is just as comfy in the hand, and the blade is WAAAAAY better on the Millie... unless you are looking to pry and use as more of a general tool than a knife... NE hoo... maybe someone can post a pic of a Military and an SnG together??? I USED to own both... I'll see if I can dig up a pic.

SNG is the perfect EDC size. As for alternatives, there are buck striders and onion strider ZT knives you can look at. They will cost you less, but you will have to sacrifice if you want the real deal

I've got a mille, but I would like something beefier.
The military has a thin tip and a pretty thin liner ( though very very solid).

Maybe I'll wait for the ti frame lock millie.

If i do get a strider it looks like I'll get an sng, I didn't think the sizing difference between the two was so little.

Itis noticeably different in the hand though. The SMF feels almost too big for my EDC needs. The big differences are between the SNG and SMF and then comparing those to the PT. The PT is much smaller

Ahh I see.
Well looks like its definitely an SNG then.

i feel the same.

the smf doesn't "appear" to be a lot larger. but it is larger in every dimension enough to make it noticeably different to carry and hold.

the sng is already a fairly wide knife, expecially at the butt (wide butt :p).

i didn't find the smf too big to hold or use (recently sold mine), but really pushing the limits for pocket carry.

i also had an AR. that was a nice knife as well, but way too large for pocket carry, imo.

I'm not yet a Strider man, but I can say don't settle for alternatives. When it comes to knives of this quality, it pays to spend the extra money to get the real thing.
