striking firesteel with bk2

Danke, it was daughter taking the pic, I do that with a firesteel all the time. Can't wait to get my Goingear Moose Model, gonna burn the house down if I'm not careful.

SWEET, the moose is giant.

I'm going to get the beast when I get a chance

The moose model is AMAZING. Just saw it. Though I think I'd go balls to the walls and get ze BEAST.

Anyone ever drill into one, safely? I have a firesteel.com one with a hole that is undoubtedly useful because of that feature.

Oh yeah, they drill easy, just ramp down the RPMS, and you'r good to go, real soft. Just clamp it in a couple of wood block so the hole is straight, and rock on. Keep the drill out though, and add them to a CBPJ or some fatwood shaving, AWESOME. I actually thought about grinding one down once, just to have the powder. I got enough to fill a 20oz Coke lid, on stike, and ran away, it got bad. Shit poppin for 15 minutes. Lit the cap though.

I have a firesteel.com 3/8 *4 - the bigger the steel, bigger sparks. Grab an old bastard file and see what you can do...

I tried that before, I like my BK14 with the spine squared, seems to do OK:thumbup::D

Once more, well, because I like it, my Shy did a good job on this one. She's 8.

Good to know, making the dust/shavings is ingenious too.

I feel like an idiot, I'm going downstairs now and testing that out. :D

Alright, I am an idiot. Just tried this out and wow. The easiest way I've found to strike the firesteel, specifically a firesteel.com one which is pretty hard to strike. I also use the file on a magnesium block from coghlans that I despise, though may have just found a new life. I think I'll pick up one of those tiny bastard files they sell. Useful as a striker, making magnesium dust, WOOD dust and even removing major edge damage from my knives. All for $5 or so I think.

Thank you paperairplane!
