Lying in bed last night I was thinking about knives. May as well. Gonna be dreaming about them in a few minutes anyway. I was really giving thought to which knife I would carry if only permitted to carry/own one knife, what would it be.

Without listing all the knives that were floating in my mind and what eliminated them, I’m going to stick with the winner.

Why the 4? Very useful length of 4 ¼” measured from shoulder grind to tip. Small enough to EDC, use in the kitchen, bushcraft and even has enough bulk to be used to baton through wood. Jimping on the spine feels great even after long use. Handle shape fits my hand perfectly. The finger choil that initially puzzled me and bugged me, is now a very welcome feature.

The sheath is very durable. Never had a breakage issue. The molded 3 sheath has never failed me but the 6 has. Even though I like the 3 sheath, I much prefer Kydex.

I keep trying to find a replacement for the 4. Not that I don’t love it, but it’s fun to continue the quest.

So far, nothing has come along that replaces it.

I changed the edge contour on this one and just for fun, polished the edge except for the extreme point of the edge so it will be a useful edge.

I share your sentiments on the 4. Kind of like my relationship with Glocks; when I find something that does it better I'll go to that. Ain't found it yet in either case.

Pretty cool how You changed the belly on that blade.
Did You use a belt sander to do that?

Unlike what I did on the 5 with a new small flat bastard file, the only thing I used on the 4 is my Sharpmaker. First the corners that have been worn away and actually remove steel, then the flats to polish it up. I constantly adjust the angle of the knife by sight and feel.

Very good sir!
I'm holding My 4 up to the screen,
and WOW,
it's just a tremendous difference between the two.
Looks great! Took awhile I bet...

Tom, that 4 is polished beautifully. I would hate to actually use it. But in the ESEE line I still favor the 6. The 3 and 4 handles are just too small in my hands, and I'm not interested in having to buy replacement slabs for everything. In the 4 size range I prefer a number of knives; Howling Rat, Nyala, SAR 4, and maybe even the CR Mountaineer I.
