Hey guys, I have a stripped torx screw on my dragonfly, and was wondering if there is any way to get it out? when i open and close it it kinda grinds in a way and want to clean it but cant because the torx is stripped. any ideas? thanks

You can get a screw remover at the hardware store. You can send it on for repair.

As far as the grit, you can run it under a stream of warm water, dry it, and then lube it.

How badly? I have had success using a Torx bit one size up (example: T7 in a partially stripped T6 head). Try placing the knife on a firm but mar-free surface (plastic cutting board, wood cutting board, or similar) and using a removable Torx bit tapped in gently with a hammer. Also, if you have not done so already, this is the time to apply some heat to soften any adhesive that's in the threads, as well as possibly trying a solvent to weaken the bond (my first choices are Kroil and Breakfree). Go slow and be patient. You are likely to need new screws when you're done.

thanks guys. I have heard to use a soldering iron, but how would i use that to heat the screw up? just but it on the stripped part or what? and also would i have to order more screws from spyderco itself?

Touch the heated tip to the screw head.

Yes, you'll likely need to get replacement screws from Spyderco. Call the factory store/outlet. I don't know what their parts policy is (whether they'd send one or two for free, whether they'd sell them to you, or whether they don't send parts like that out at all).

I had a somewhat stripped screw in my daily used zdp delica...i used a one size up torx and a whole heap of force and slowly turning it to get it out. I also have noticed some torx drivers seem to fit better with different brands. IE i have a husky torx set that store in handle but sometimes i end up using the benchmade bluebox because their torx of the same size seems to fit better.

wouldnt you heat up the opposite side of the screw you're trying to get out (the "female" side)? heat should cause that side to expand as opposed to heating the torx screw itself causing the screw to expand slightly and make a snugger fit?

luckily got it out and ordered a delica parts kit from spyderco. its odd they sell delica and endura parts kits but not kits for other knives.

I stripped screws in the very soft torx of the Tenacious and Cara Cara 2. VERY carefully used an old hex bit from an old set and some super glue. Worked like a charm, just have to clean off the bit between screws.

Spyderco sent the harder screw replacements for those two, plus a Meadowlark and a second Cara Cara that hadn't stripped free of charge. Once the screw is out you should be golden.

i took a one size up torx and put kleenex in between them two and it worked perfectly! and i called spyderco and they are sending me some new ones no charge :) but the super glue sounds like an interesting idea also!

Excellent result all the way around. Glad things worked out for you.
