Stripped the blade on my Izula

Hey folks,

Decided that after the coating started coming off a little bit from use that I would help it along. :)

I put some paint stripper on the blade and taped off the rest of the knife as to not get stripper on it.

I let it sit for about 15 minutes and came back and wiped off the coating. The blade had a dull gray look to it and still had the little Isula ant and the Izula word on the blade. I took some 250 grit to the blade, and then some 400 grit and then some 600 grit.

I wanted to leave the coating on the rest of the knife as to help keep it protected. The knife cuts better now. Maybe it doesn't cut better but the smooth finish glides through stuff much better.

Anyway, I like it. She's a user, just how a knife should be.

Here are some pics...

Looks good. I'm thinking about the same to mine. I might strip the whole lady down though.

No point in stripping the top off only to leave the pants on...:D Take it ALL OFF! I am planning the same in the near future and adding handles. The only problem i see creeping up with that is paracord holding water on the handle and supporting rust development.

Very nice job, and I would not take the rest of the coating off. I think original color blends in real good with the stripped blade.

Looks good. Whenever I get around to buying some paint stripper I'm going to do the same and let it build up a patina buy cutting food with it every chance I get.

Not gonna strip it all off. I am a very form follows function type of person. Only reason I stripped it was because after it got kinda beat up looking I thought that it would glide through what it was cutting better. I was right. I will let it get a natural patina if any. She's a user. I stripped it only to gain function.

that looks great. i would be wary to strip my izula. mainly because my acid hands and uncoated stainable steels dont get along.

Looks real nice - plan on doingmine whenit gets here in a couple days. Thanx for the info on to do it.

I wouldn't mind having a Mirror finished Izula. Your almost there. Why not just strip the whole thing. Looks kind of odd just doing the blade. IMO

Good Job though.

if you wrap the handles after you strip the whole thing you'd have to worry about rusting more, since the paracord takes a while to dry.
i just stripped mine to, but up to where the wrapping begins.

I have wood handles expoxied to mine. No worries for rust under there. See my post, My Izula and Can I join the Rat Pack for a picture.

Thanks

I stripped the grey gunk off of both my RAT-7 and RAT-3. They both look better now, and work much better. I've had no issues with rust in the ensuing couple of years, either.

I gotta get some new pics of it. She's got a nice patina going so far and I got a sheath made for it out of Kydex. It was made for me as a gift from a friend in the Netherlands. Thanks Piet!

I'll post in a new thread regarding the sheath.
