Stripper Question: Will Citristip damage liners?

Here's that full body shot for ya Thump, and no problem at all. I apologize for the crappy iPhone pics, but it's my only camera at the moment. Only bead blasted from the logo back in this pic since im still not 100% sure the direction I'm going to go as SR101 seems to develop a patina almost overnight.

That's pretty much proof that the liner material in not G10. also see here; http://popsupply.bizhosting.com/spacer_material_.html

The liners definitely are NOT G10, they are the above listed material, and they will absorb some things. I recently repaired for a friend a set on a knife that was soaked in Ferric Chloride with the scales on, and the FC soaked most of the way through the liners. I had to remove and toss the scales and liners as the FC had ruined the liners and stained the micarta, but it is pretty nasty stuff and I don't know how the stripper would affect the liners or the steel over time under the scales if it did soak in. For that reason I prefer to remove the scales to strip, or only strip the blade where it will wear, though on whole knives I've stripped without liners there was no ill effect that I had noticed even when removing the scales years later.

citristrip is pretty safe stuff, but the liners may have an issue. Do not use JAsco stripper, that will melt the liners for sure. It melted the gloves I was using.

Thanks for the pics and the info, fellas..

Tyrade..wow, what a mess... FC is nasty stuff...any pics after the repair, would love to see what scales and fasteners you used.

Cobalt..lol...yea no...no JAsco for me...Citristrip seems pretty tame... My biggest concern the first time I used it was just that... worried it might eat thru' my gloves like alien blood...

Here ya go. I used some 3/8" black micarta that I shaped to be sort of magnums, but a bit beefier and more comfortable IMO. I installed them with brass tube.

What a great job..beautiful work. Thanks for posting the pics.

I would love to swap scales (or have new set) on a few of mine, the tube fasteners always kept me from fooling w/ them.

Well done on the TG..

I have always been under that impression, they make their own g10. When I call and ask what colors there are for liners it's only the colors of g10. ( Orange, black, green, blue, red, tan.) I can't swear to it though

Well I couldn't swear to it. I did write that. My personal liner material is g10, I apologize

wow, thats fantastic work! You should throw down in the "green canvas micarta thread" haha I have some black/green canvas slabs i want to swab onto a knife but need to figure out which...

When questioned at the KC Show this past spring, Garth said that they have been experimenting with making some G10, but by no means do they produce all their own scale material.
