Stripping the coating off your INFI.

Paul,

Go to the local hardware store and get any heavy duty stripper. I like the gel based stuff best. It comes off real easily after soaking a minute or two. At most, you may have to scrape a little w/a plastic putty knife.

Do it in a ventilated area...

Thanks Xaman! Does it do anything to the micarta? Maybe clean it a bit?

no harm to the micarta. i didn't paste it all over the micarta, but i didn't worry about getting a little on it either -- and it didn't hurt it at all.

That's about it. I drenched my AK in stripper, including some of the micarta, with no problems.

Great! Thanks guys! I think I know what I'll do on my next day off! Who wants to see a stripped Eu-17 Mag?

I'll have to look for that one. I'm pretty sure the hardware store is closed by now, but there's a 24 hour Wal-Mart down the street. I'll see if they have it!

tony, that looks nice. i like the look of the dimples contrasting with the satin finish. i've got a can of jasco sitting here that i picked up a week or so ago. i think it was mymindisamob that used that on a heavy heart, so i figured i'd go with it. i'm planning to use it on the HOGFSH i've got coming, it's already a user and looks like the coating is starting to go. i like the looks of the stripped knives, so i'll be giving it a try as well.

The temptation was too great. I went and got some Klean-Strip today and did the same to mine, although I only polished the ground portion of the blade. I left the dimples rough and un-sanded because I liked the color contrast. It really improves the look of the knife imho. (Sorry no pics, college student budget here.) :D

Awesome on the SS4, so we all know micarta is impervious to chemical strippers, how did the Resiprene C hold up? If there's no issue I may do this asap, since I hate getting coating on my waterstones.
