Stripping the finish from my Ka-Bar Tanto

In the fall of 2005, I was getting everything ready to be deployed to Iraq. One thing I was missing was a good fixed blade. As I shopped around I saw and fell in love with the full sized, partially serrated Ka-Bar tanto. I made my purchase, I think around $60, and was deployed with my unit for 12 months in Hell... er Baghdad. In that time I used my Ka-Bar for any and everything I could think of. After I got out of the Army, I put the ol' girl away. She was in pretty rough condition (don't get in to a knife throwing match with an Iraqi soldier). So, after deliberating and looking at different finishes, I decided on giving her a forced patina.

And then?? Lol, you got me hooked on the beggining of the post but t feels like it's missing a conclusion.

Either a question or some pics, but somethings missing here.

Yea, after reading this I feel like I felt at the end of The Hobbit....WTF, it just ended? LOL

Like we say over at BKT

If there are no pics, it didn't happen ;)

Ha ha. Sorry. Trying to figure out how to upload from my phone. And I was on my lunch break, so I didn't have a lot of time. Will upload some pics soon.

Oh yea, uploads are nuts lol. You gotta upload the photos to an image hosting site like imgur, then copy and paste the meesageboard/forum code that imgur gives you for your photo.

I tried several sites and imgur was the only one that works for me. I used to could do from my phone that way easily until it broke and now I can't do it from the itouch.

I've been dying to upload some forced patina pics of my own, only on an opinel.

I had a 1245 of my own so I can't wait to see. Also have somewhat of a " patina" look on mine (broken blade now) but it's really just a stripped blade that isn't polished fully/evenly, I liked that look better.

Mhmm :) you're getting the right link as far as text goes but with the wrong prefixe, I simply quoted your post and changed the to

Now how about one showin off that patina? ;)

*EDIT*

Sorry I'm experiencing technical difficulties n can't edit post, that is I changed the blocks in front of and at end of your link that stated [ URL ]

Ps. Welcome to Bladeforums and most of all, the KA-BAR side :D

I feel bad for the mods who may have to do some cleanup here.

My itouch is all I have to use here and it's not very forum freindly, until my broken phone is repaired they may have to forgive me for multiple post just to edit and such.

*EDIT* Logged in from PC to try to do some cleanup of my own.

it seems to be working for you now :D

Please forgive me mods for making this one so messy.

BTW, that is a very nice look on a kabar, just like my opinel now that I have scratches in it.

What did you use to force it?

Soaked in vinegar for 2 hours which left a solid grey patina. Put mustard stripes and left for two more hours.
