I'm considering stripping my tops outpost commander blade. (My objective is polished look or stainless). The coating is a black epoxy/poly powder coat hybrid, according to thier online info. I've been on chemo for awhile and i'm concerned if i might have to use serious chemicals. can anyone explain the process? thanks, gfleet

Welcome to Blade Forums!

I have stripped the powder coating off of several Busse knives. It's really pretty easy. Here is my standard set up

All these items are dedicated to this use. A plastic paint tray, a cheap nylon brush for slathering on the stripper, a stiff stainless brush to scrub off the residue. The plastic putty knife didn't last that long, so I now use a regular steel scraper. You will need a heavy duty solvent based stripper, the "green" strippers designed to take off latex paint will not cut it. I work outside, so fumes aren't a problem. Just gob on the stripper and leave it sit for 10 -15 minutes, then scrape off and reapply as needed. I don't bother with gloves, but you might want to use them.

There have been several threads on the Busse forum about stripping coating, so try a search there.

I have some Scotch Brite drums for my Dremel....the coating comes off like blowing dust off the blade.
