Strix: A Custom Fixed Blade from Terrio Handmade Knives

It's his medium bushcrafter. The blade is a bit thinner than most 1/8 inch bushcraft knives. It'll be mostly a skinning knife for me.

I pushed it in the branch you see and it went in so easy, I thought the wood was rotten. It wasn't.

Very cool!

That looks superb. I recently commissioned a couple of custom fixed blades myself (also my first) and I expect them to be finished in a few months time. It is quite a process to go through.

Indeed, you don't think you have enough money for traditionals, start have your knives built custom. :D

Its a BAD addiction.

Great looking blade. I've been using a lot of thin knives lately. I've never broken a blade yet and thin certainly cuts better than thick.
How does the handle fit you? The one I tried of his fit me like it was made for my hand.

Funny, so did the one I tried.

Oh, wait.

;)

I understand that James is known for this, however, across different models. Woodrow, how's yours?

The handle is comfortable, at least for the limited use it has seen thus far. It's so dang sharp that I don't see me working hard enough to notice if I was going to have an issue with it or not. For a larger knife, it seems so compact once it's in it's sheath.

Really a nice knife. It's a little long (blade length legal) to carry for much more than hunting. I really think I might want one of his utility knives.

Holy crap it's sharp. :D

I'm very pleased that you like it! Thank you all again for your kind words and support :)

As Woodrow says, that's my medium bushcrafter, a little bigger than a Strix but not much heavier or bulkier. It's meant for slicing, cutting, field-dressing and whittling, not chopping through cinder-blocks ;)

Harrumph. :grumpy:

Oh, wait....

Meanwhile, it's STICKS time!

Sarah,
thank you for the thread, the pictures, and for telling us a bit more about the whole process.
I'm sailing the same waters right now, and I know how rewarding the whole process can be (hopefully for the maker as well), and when it ends with such a nice knife, then you know it was worth it. As you know, I'm quite a fan of blue, but I admit it's not easy to match a blue handle on a fixed blade. You and James did it for sure :) and the knife looks quite comfortable to use as well.

It's all coming together....

The last month or two, I've parked the Strix in my kitchen knife block, enjoying having it readily on hand (and thus, readily in-hand). I'm almost always surprised at how small it looks amidst some of the kitchen regulars, especially given how well it fills my hand, and how well-suited it is for, let's see, "cheese and stuff."

:)
