Hey all! I have had very little time to actually do any kind of knife work as I just started school for engineering, but I thought I would post some pictures of the file rack I just built. It is not my design, it is based off of descriptions from Guy Lautard's StrokaGenius file rack. I don't know if it is accurate to the original as I have never seen a picture of it. Any way without further ado...

The whole assembly will hold 24 files up to 16" in length. You could easily put more capacity in it, but the wood disks I got were soft pine and I didn't want to over load it and have it breaking on me. Plus the golf ball handles are about as close as they can get.

Now for the obligatory WIP shots....

The layout is accomplished using basic trig and geometry principles.

The top is drilled through with a 1/4 bit (note a 5/16 would have been better) and then dimpled with a Silver and Deming 7/8 bit. Then cut along your lines with a coping saw or scroll saw.

The shaft is turned down to fit a socket in the top and base that I put in with a 1" spade bit. The top handle was done the same and I got a bit creative with the turning of it as you can see. Not to shabby for the first time but there was some definite chatter. The handle and shaft sandwich the top plate with a double sided wood screw. The shaft is connected to the bottom with just a plain jane lag screw coming up from the base.

The links don't work for me but it looks like a great idea from the pic's. Teddy

Here is a quick video of it in action. All told I think I have about ~$20 in it.

I don't keep my files in a rack but I have been using golf ball handles for a while. There were golf balls all over my property when I bought the place so they have been coming in handy.
