Strong odor on Rat 7 scales

I just received a new Rat 7 – Yay for me! However, I noticed the micarta scales have a strong chemical odor to them. Is this simply the resins in the material outgassing?

The odor is normal for all micarta handled knives regardless of manufacturer.

Thanks, razorburn! It's my first with unpolished micarta scales....been sitting outside the box now for over 24 hours, and the odor has pretty much dissipated.
