Hi folks!
I'm having trouble deciding between a Gerber Strongarm and a Becker Bk11 for my belt knife for a Maine wilderness canoe trip. On one hand, the Strongarm is strongly built, has a nice molle compatible plastic sheath. However, numerous reviews have said that the Strongarm's edge can be really uneven, and I'm not that great at reprofiling. On the other hand, the Becker Bk11 has better steel, and is easier to sharpen. However, I hate the plastic Becker sheaths and will probably buy an aftermarket kydex sheath, which coupled with the knife, would cost more than the strongarm.
I asked this on a different thread around 6 months ago, but if you have any other fixed blade knife recommendations under 60 dollars, it would be great. I am interested in perhaps purchasing a Mora knife and folding saw, but Mora sheaths are (to my knowledge) only for righties and I'm left handed. I have a Buck 119 which is quite sharp, but it has a leather sheath and wouldn't fare well in water. I also have a Kabar USMC but it seems too tactical and the double guard is annoying. The last contender is my Bk14 with AZWELKE sheath and g10 scales, which I really, really like. The problem for me is that when the handle is wet, it is hard to pull out of the sheath. The BK11 has more contours on the handle so would be easier to pull out. I'm not sure. Maybe I should just bring the BK14? Okay, done with the rambling.
