strongest cheap folder (cheap knife you'd use to dig your way out of a train wreck)

If you were going fixed blade, then how about a Becker BK series knife? Most can be had for less than $50 and are sturdy

Another vote for the Buck Strider 889.
...And I'll make it three.

I've got an 883, which is the same thing but with an ATS-34 blade, heat treated by Paul Bos. The thing that separates these from the rest mentioned here is the blade grind: I've seen very few knives with as strong a tip (yes, that includes tantos!). Try digging out with some of these other knives, and you'll soon end up with a blunt chisel instead of a knife; not that Buck/Strider!

Been there in the plane version, and unless you are planing on cutting through both legs you better wait for the jaws of life.

I'm betting the d`allara drop point....ball bearing (axis) lock, full stainless liners, beefy VG10 blade, 3.5 inches and 55 bucks....can't wait till mine gets in this week.....I've held one in real life and it's a very substantial knife for the money.

Tough as hell, I've been breaking one in for a few weeks now, but - it's a cutter. Very strong, secure handle, but a high, fine hollow grind. I could skin out a mulie with mine, but it is NOT the folder I'd pick to pry with. My Chinook, now... :D

In the $50 range, I'd go with a clip point Griptilian - I don't think it's any tougher than a D'Allara mechanically, but it's a very robust blade, ground to carry a lot of thickness out to the point. If you're a serial tip abuser, a 551 is the knife for you.

Buck Strider? Isn't that a linerlock?

For prying and digging?

Better your fingers than mine, brothers. :)

Cheap strong knife--BM Monochrome for about $30-$35 or BM mini-grip
I would take one of these over any buck, Crkt, or anything else under $50...

Well, unless you've got this train wreck scheduled and the knife on order to be here by then, just plan on using your EDC.
I'll admit, I've got a drawer full of knives for this and for that but then I don't plan on being in an emergency anytime soon....:foot:
Hopefully, my EDC will help out enough to get me out of a jam. I won't hesitate to snap a blade on a $200-$300 pockect knife if I need too.
