Strongest Multitools

I'm still waiting for Kershaw to make multitools again. Heck, even bring back the A100! Should have bought a dozen of them when they were still in production....have you seen what they're going for on eBay?!?

Until then, Victorinox all the way for me. I can't stand having to open the pliers just to get to the other tools the way Leathermans and SOGs are designed.

I have a Gerber 600, and the Leatherman MUT EOD. They're both incredible. My Gerber is issued, and is a tank. The MUT- I bought before I went on tour, and it stood up to everything. It's an EOD- specific tool, but it has the same great build as the regular MUT. Both are great!

What model 600 is it?

The 07550, I think. It's whichever model the Canadian Armed Forces bought thousands of, lol. If I figure out how, I'll post a picture. The pliers are between blunt and needle nose, I'd say. Non replaceable wire cutter blades- basic model...

I have a tti and it's good but not that strong. I always feel as though I might break it when I try to turn a tight screw. My brother has a Mut multi tool and it feels like a fixed blade. It would get my vote as the strongest. I have handled a surge but the replaceable file and saw felt really flimsy.

I vote for the Wingman (though any leatherman is pretty tough).

I was mowing the lawn once and it came out of my pocket and I managed to run it over with the mower and it did more damage to the mower than the mower did to the Wingman. I've dropped it, used it in unintended purposes (hammer) and use it quite a lot and it still looks in good condition.

I've had hard use success with any leatherman that has a 154CM steel blade. Personally, I prefer the leatherman skeletool cx. I like to make feather sticks with it.

The strongest multi tool?.....I'm not sure if we know! I bought a new leatherman Super Tool reached it to my son to cut a 3/4" limb and the saw blade broke. Leatherman took care of it in a timely manner! I mention that story because there are similiar stories about all the various multi tools out there. Almost all of my experience with MT's has been with older Leathermans and have no complaints. About 2 months ago I purchased my first Swiss Tool and I like it so well I have a Spirit x on the way as I write this. Is it stronger than a Leatherman? I have no idea! I do know that I like having access to various tools without having to open the pliers. I do know the blade steel in the charge is probaly better than that used in the Swiss Tool. I do know that I don't care for the Gerber tool, not from personal experience, but , a friend of mine has carried one for years and I simply don't like the design. I do know both the Super tool and Swiss tool are a little heavy for edc for me. Though I will keep both. The Spirit x will most likely be my new carry. Although I'm still thinking about buying a Rebar. In closing although I've had good experience with Leatherman products I'm leaning toward Victorinox.
Good luck with whichever you choose.

Does anyone make a multitool with actually Tool Steel for the pliers? that's what I want to see, I'd sure pay more for it, don't know why it is not being done.

AFAIK, nobody makes a multi-tool with tool steel for the pliers. For most people, current multi-tools are strong enough. You would have to pay much more, and the market wouldn't support something so niche market.

This. It is exceeding rare to see a broken plier head, a bent phillips driver, etc. on an MT. Part of this has to do with the fact that its just not easy to get enough hand pressure on an MT to break the plier, and I'm guessing that guys who are really hard on their stuff are using "real" tools and not MTs. Whatever the reason, though, it does seem that you rarely see a broker plier on an MT. The heftier MTs like the Surge or the Swisstool would be dang hard to break even if you were trying.

True. I would like to add that if I need pliers stronger than the ones found on multitools, then I would use dedicated pliers. The same counts for screw drivers. Multitools are really handy for a lot of tasks and provide a lot of functions in a compact package, but dedicated tools are often better for the purposes where they were designed for.
