Built a 4 sided strop form 2" x 50" tandy veg tan cow hide.
Put the rough side out on 3 sides, bare on 1.
Black white and green compound from stropman.
(was trying to simulate one of his for cheap)
The rough side is way to hard.
I thought it would soften up some with use, boy was I wrong.Knives almost bounce off surface.
Should it be sanded. washed, neetsfoot, taken out back and shot?
It felt hard when it was glued but its unusable.
Guess I should have known.
The plan was to use it for convex edges.
Went back to knives plus strop but wanted something more "aggressive"
Any ideas would be appreciated

What I heard is to use olive oil. Worth a shot. Or......just call Stropman and order one!! His strops are great!!
Good luck!
Joe

Olive oil can go rancid. And get smelly!

I have a 4 sided strop. I've used wd40 before.

You may actually find that the firm strop is better.

Really nice strops tend to be very firm. Expensive horse hide ones are cased, to be even harder.

Considering many use balsa wood strops with diamond compound directly on the wood, you may want to rethink what's too hard.

We'd recommend going out back and shooting it. ;)Gotta check out the Knives Plus Strop. Best damn strop around but we kinda biased:) Tons of people have tried em and loved em. Check it out here STROP BLOCK. We use chap leather that we hand pick. Pre loaded too! Most people do not realize how much is involved in making a great strop. The leather, the way it is attached to wood, the rouge all come into play.

Sorry guys just got home
I do have the knivesplus strop.
When i say hard i also mean very course thick hard nap
so thick and bumpy knife bounces over it
Super light pressure at low angle has no feedback and no improvement on edge.
perhaps i will try a little sanding with a shot of wd after cleaning off compound.
thanks so much for your time
will let ya know what happened

Can confirm!!!!!

The Knives Plus Strop is great. I've used mine for a while, followed instructions, it'd still as good as new.
