Strop Question

I purchased and received a two sided strop setup from Hand America. It is on a Corian base which is very heavy and extremely nice. I ordered the set that came with the strop setup and a tube of the green stuff. They didn't see my order and after sending them an email they appologized and sent my oder right out with some nice extras. They included a large ceramic round hone on a wooden handle with leather sheath, several pieces of leather squares, and a container of powered green stuff.

Used the strop with the green stuff on the rough side and the smooth side plain. The knives that were already shaving sharp were made even sharper and easily so with this hone. I highly recommend this set.

I followed the suggestions on Hand America's site and have had no problems enhancing the edges of my folders.

I plan on using the ceramic they sent me as you would a steel and then stropping on my new set to keep my edges straight and keen.

wade,
a leather shoe string will work to strop a serrated edge. What works well/better is a leather string, not string a shoestring, but a natural leather string (not oiled) that is soaked in water. Then you use your fingers and run it through your fingers rounding off the edges (putting some tension on it as you pull it through). Let it dry (thoroughly), coat it with strop conditioner, then attach it to a door knob and use it on your serrated edges. Its a little work to get started, but it works!!!
