Stropping Elmax

I was reading how you cant sharpen Elmax with arkansas stones. I was wondering if your could strop elmax without any diamond pastes or fancy equipment, just old fashion leather and compound.

I have stropped an Elmax blade on a leather strop with green paste on it. The Elmax is a tougher steel and it takes a technique to get the stropping to work. It just takes a bit more pressure than the normal carbon/stainless steels. I did get a polished edge on the Elmax. Be sure not to totally dull your knife before stropping. I do use diamond stones for sharpening any of the high performance steels.

I strop mine on a leather strap, it seems to help. What kind of paste could I use to make it more effective? Any recommendations?

Green Honing Compound

Green Honing Compound is easy to use

This fine chromium oxide and aluminum oxide abrasive is used when you want a polished, honed edge on your tools, and it can be used on leather, wood or synthetic strops.

Cool!!! Thanks

Just strop it every day when you get back home when you use it. It even works on s110v.

Elmax will respond to leather & paste. I strop my Para 2 when I use it and I stropped my BRKs in Elmax when I had them. Stropping is better for refining an already sharp edge rather than for actual sharpening, but it works with just about any steel if you use the right materials.
