Stropping methods

I would appreciate learning more about the proper methods of stropping.

I had been using an old leather belt to strop after sharpening but friends have told me that the strop should be thicker, mounted on a wood block and lubricated.

I would appreciate some advice. Thanks.

I prefer dry stroping.. It just gets a better edge and stays longer on razors.. As for knives I do not strop..
