Was thinking about setting up a charged strop for my fallkniven f1 I was planning on using a leather strop with some green stropping compound, the kind that is available in bulk at most wood carving sites, I plan like most people to utilize this strop to maintain it's edge by stroppping at the end of every day of use, Does this seem lik an adequat setup?? and expectation?? also the fallkniven as most people know has a convex grind, when stropping on an uncharged belt I don't worry much about the angle but once it is charged with an abrasive should I look to maintain a specific angle when stropping?? most people seem to think when sharpening a convex grind one should strive to achieve an approximate 13 degree angle, is this what I should strive for when stropping on a charged strp as well?? sorry for all the questions I just really want to avoid damaging or dulling my edge, I want to make sure I get it right any help would be great thanks.

Hey Riley,

I use the "Formex" green compound too. The 13 degree angle is something I read on a BRKTA site where a guy has a pictorial on sharpening. I find that each of my Bark Rivers has a different angle to find. The mini-Canadian angle is very low, maybe around 13 degrees or less. THe mini-Skinners, Bravos, and Highland have a higher angled grind. I just gently roll it and stop at the angle where I start to feel the resistance of the wet/dry paper.

I have read that you should strop at the same angle that you ground your edge. That's what I do and it works. Even if all I had to strop with was uncharged leather, I would strop at the final sharpening angle.
