Stropping

I've heard that you can use corrogated cardboard the same way that a leather strop is used. Does anyone know if this is correct?

I've used cardboard from a legal pad with red jeweler's rouge on it to strop. It worked pretty well. I've also tried stropping with the same cardboard without any polish and it didn't seem to do much.

I've never used corrogated cardboard, though.
