Struggling, but not giving up...opinions requested

perhaps I'm misreading but you seem pretty down on knives in general, possible you're just not a knife person anymore? The 25 is my favorite, just plain jane with silver studs. Not fancy but just works. I have a 21 micarta and while I won't get rid of it it just didn't speak to me like the 25.

I got a plain 25 first, was middle of the road about it, then got a Micarta 21, Micarta Insingo (both large) a left and right new-pivot Zaan, an old-pivot Zaan and then a Micarta 25 when it came out.

Just about went broke doing so.

Took a break, then the lefty plain 25 and also a Micarta 25 lefty were released in quick succession. And I jumped on them too.

I have to say my interest in knives waned when I got into compound bow archery, but a I still like knives and have all of the above. Getting not as obsessed gave me time to step back then look at them in a fresh light. A non-obsessed fresh light.

I have to say that if I were to choose a couple to keep, it would be a Micarta 25 and the old-pivot Zaan. The Zaan without question, but the old-pivot looks so much better in my eyes than the new one does.

The micarta 25 choice would be much harder. I prefer the stonewash finish on the older 25s over the newer ones, it looks "cleaner" to me. The older Micarta 25 right hand I cannot see me ever selling either. It is a beautiful knife.

But I started carrying my lefty Micarta 25 a month ago exclusively, as I'm really into archery but I will always carry a knife. Always. And I must say the lefty Micarta 25 I have really grown to appreciate. It is a very good knife; robust, good looking and just very solid overall. A "performer," now that I think about it.

And isn't that what we are mainly looking for in a knife, one we will USE? Solid performance?

I traded the large Micarta Insingo I had for one of the new pivot Zaans and I do not miss it. I will sell the new pivot Zaans some day and not miss them either.

All that being said, my advice is to go for the Micarta 25.

If I HAD to live with only one CRK the rest of my life (never say never!) it would probably be my lefty Micarta 25. Because I'm a lefty and the micarta, as already mentioned, makes a huge difference in that knife IMO.

If you lived near me I'd let you check all of them out, which would make deciding much easier for you.

Best of luck with your decision!

Down on knives in general? Me???
Just not a knife person anymore?

I can't help but ask how you came to those thoughts - was it because I stated that I'm moving away from having a bunch of knives that I just don't use? Because I said I'm approaching any/all new purchases with a somewhat different mind set? Because I'm not a fan of tanto blades? Or are you slapping me with that You can't be a knife person if you don't like CRK nonsense? I'm actually interested in your reply (as long as it doesn't involve that last reason).

Was no hidden agenda, you just seemed down on every suggestion, nothing more than that. Didn't mean to touch a nerve.

No nerve hit - I just didn't understand your jump to that comment.
I don't think I responded negatively to anything other than the tanto 'zaan...and that was explained in the same post. I did also state that I wasn't considering a small, and explained that as well. That's got nothing to do with being down on knives in general, and everything to to with knowing what I don't like.
FWIW, I've made a point of thanking people for their offered insights & suggestions...but, I'll agree that I could have handled my response to the tanto suggestion more diplomatically.
Thanks

We all like what we like, no harm done. I'm almost openly hostile to the Classic/21 and that is probably the most popular knife here. :foot:... :p
