Stryker Axis vs Griptilian w/ upgraded scales?

are these the new production or another version added

Another version added but it's going to be a production knife. Meaning they will continue to produce this knife along side the other knives they make. It's not a limited run...from what I can tell. But who knows. Maybe they only make the 1000 and discontinue the knife.

Can a standard, non deep carry clip be installed on the axis Stryker? The holes appear wider than Benchmade's standard spacing from pictures.

You are correct; the spacing is different. The standard clip will not fit the Stryker.

And that clip is my only nitpick about this knife. It flexes a little bit side to side and that bothers me. It also sets far to the rear of the handle and doesn't quite hit me in the right spot of my palm when using the knife. At least it's not tip-down only. Or a flimsy wire like the horrendous one Spyderco uses on some models. (Not picking on Spyderco....I love their knives but I despise that damn wire clip.)

I really like Benchmade's original plain jane 3-screw clip. It was just about perfect as it was and I miss it on the Strykers.

I have to agree. The pocket clip is what has kept me away from the Stryker series.

Don't let the clip keep you away from the Strykers. It's not really that bad. It's a minor nitpick of mine compared to the overall utility and fit of the 908/909 models. Most of the flex I find in the clips can be minimized or removed by snugging the clip screws really tight. And the location of the clip is about the same as all deep carry clips--a little too far to the rear of the handle. Despite my clip complaints, I usually carry one of my Axis Strykers daily.

I'm a fan of deep pocket clips on dressy knives, and I wouldn't use the Stryker in that role. My 941 serves nicely there.

I like standard, easy to grab pocket clips on EDC knives, and ones that stand off the handle enough to clip over thick pocket seams. The Stryker seems to fall short there.

I'm not really trying to sell you a Stryker, TFin04. I promise.:)

I'm not fond of the deep pocket clip trend. While the Axis Stryker does have a deep pocket clip, it's not as deep as the bulk of clips of this type I've seen. There's a good 1/2 inch of knife sticking up out of the pocket to grab onto. As for clearance of thick seams, it actually stands off a smidgen higher than the standard clips on my 710 and 940. Slides over the thick reinforced knife seams on the pockets of 5.11 pants easily.

Stryker 909 clipped for reference:

I also prefer the standard clip aesthetically but the Axis Stryker clip doesn't bug me at all.
