Stuart Branson Fusion Gladius/Xiphos

Positively gorgeous!
Not everything has to be overly embellished and mirror polished in the knife world to be beautiful.
The usage of materials in this piece is well thought out and blends together perfectly.
Well done!

^materials choice and decisions regarding combinations are something that Stuart prioritizes, and it shows. He always starts with a strong, well conceived foundation.

To me, the genius of his work lies in his rare ability to produce deeply contemplative pieces imbued with an undeniably primitive element. His work is tightly constrained and disciplined, but also wild and raw. It's the tension within his work that I find so appealing and fascinating. His material and finishing choices open that door, inviting further investigation into other intriguing aspects of the piece, which are manifold.

Gladius was beautiful , but that helmets don't belong here . Romans was never wear helmet lik this one :)

I think you’re taking Lorien’s thread title too literally. There’s a nod to a gladius or a xiphos with a bit of Viking sword in the handle and fuller along with a habaki of sorts and a hamon. A Heinz 57 for sure.

I did a little research, and some sources suggest that the Romans might've continued using the Corinthian style helmet for awhile before developing their open face version

Superb work, Stuart, but you do no less. Every detail, and every aspect demonstrate a level of thoughtfulness and introspection I yearn to have. This just continues to reinforce that you’re one of my favorite makers.

GREAT photos, Lorien. Seriously! This shit is NOT easy to capture, and you nailed it.

thanks Matt! I've always been a little self concious about the photos I take, but that doesn't stop me from trying :)
