Stuart Branson Tanto

Thanks again, for all of the wonderful comment, guys. Always appreciated. And yes, I feel the same way, Roger. Mike

Thats a magnificent piece Mike, enjoy. Stuart is a fabulous craftsman.:)

Wow! It's gorgeous!

I love that spine shot in Coop's photo, the taper is so beautifully done. I also love the finish on the saya. That brown is so rich and warm and I'm always a fan of sparkles in the lacquer finish, it makes the eye candy 'taste' even sweeter!

Stuart really makes some of my favorite hamon.

I definitely remember John White's Japanese Bowie. I believe the first time I saw that is when I decided that this shade of brown was my favorite color for an ito, or perhaps is was from one of Stuart's older pieces... huh, now I'm not sure lol. Either way it's very cool how the same silk eventually ended up being used on this piece as well, it makes it even that much more special.

Also, I just wanted mention how perfect that habaki and seppa fit up is as shown in that last picture, it almost looks like they were made from single piece of copper.

Thanks for sharing!

This knife WAS spectacular in every way. Just sublime. The saya had such a deep rich lacquer, it looked about 3cm deep!

Yes, and with great challenges comes more challenges. This tanto was difficult to capture and it took me WAY more time to get it to POP in the background. But it does.

I tried resetting up the studio with front lighting to show it on the stand, but that's when my modeling lamp decided to explode taking out my strobes. There was actual fire on the background paper! After I cleaned up the mess I retired this project. That was enough fun.

That act made me drive 90 mins and back to get a replacement the day before I was scheduled to go to AR. However.... All went well.

Mike, you are nothing but CLASSY in your communications and your tastes. I applaud you!

Ha! Coop, my mother must have paid you for that last line! But thank you! And thank you for the fine details of Stuart’s creation, not to mention the lively goings on of that photo session. Glad you and your studio are still with us!:D

Thank you Paul for your great observations. They are truly as you stated.

Thank you Steven65. Always appreciated.
