Hi 4evar. Welcome to Bladeforums. That is the incident I was talking about. Thanks for posting the link.

I too loved how they linked survival to cough candies and aspirin. Maybe it was that special 'lifeboat aspirin' ?..lol

In the Bellevue story, here's a link to the results of the State's investigation. A bunch of friends leaving a restaurant jumped up and down in the car, which triggered the overspeed switch. 4 of them then crawled through a 10.75" opening !!! dumb dumb dumb...

...remove a ceiling tile or open the ceiling access panel, and then throw shirt or jacket out of the elevator.

Most elevators lack any kind of access to the top or to the shaft. There can be a drop ceiling, but if you throw a urine soaked shirt up there, gravity will bring the urine back down into the cab.

Many places a do not allow a "prybar" or a knife of any description. I assume a very heavy duty pen or large belt buckle might be useful in a situation like this.

The elevator scenario is one reason why I always carry 2 flashlights. With long runtimes. (Arc AAA and Fenix P3D Q5).
