Studs or Holes??

I much prefer holes.
My EDC knives (incl. Strider PT, BM555, etc.) all have holes.

Knives with holes are much easier to open regardless of your hand size and thumb size/length.

Mike

I like both holes or studs on a blade. That said, as a 110 user, a nail nick is what I use most often.

While I don't particularly prefer one over the other, if I had to live with either studs or holes, I'd have to go with opening holes. Some folders have their studs in very awkward positions while all of my knives with holes can be opened without much trouble.

Holes all the way for me, and I like them Round, Spyderco Round:thumbup:! I have found a few knives with studs have snagged in my pocket in the past as well. That said, I would buy a knife with or without a hole as long as the design appealed to me.

While my current edc is a case trapper or sodbuster right now i strongly prefer the hole over the stud. If nothing else a stud can fall off but surely the hole won't. later, ahgar

I prefer holes, I find the stud gets in the way when I sharpen at more acute angles on a waterstone.

Spydie holes for me. Stud are ok but holes are best. What's in my pocket? A Sebenza classic with a the stud point worn down.

I prefer thumbstuds. I don't like the look of holes and the bigger the hole, the bigger the stress riser (though I'm sure that's considered and compensated for in overall knife designs). It comes down to aesthetics for me.

I haven't had a knife with a stud in a while. They've always been fine in the past though. Holes seem more natural to me and I perfer them personally. It's worth mentioning that with a hole, you're weaking the blade quite a bit though. I've never had an issue, but the bigger the hole, the less steel across the blade. Just a thought.
Maybe that that's what Slowpoke already said..?

:DI'm a studly kinda guy. (so says my wife.):D

Got both kinds. My favorite knife has a hole, so obviously it's not a deal breaker. But in general I prefer thumbstuds.

It really depends on the lock. Holes are better on lock-backs and some liner locks, but studs are better on arch-locks and axis locks. A stud is also the only option for assisted-opening.

In most cases a hole is better than a thumb-stud, you get better control over the blade during opening with a hole. On the other hand, a thumb-stud and a axis-lock or arch-lock is the best configuration for me.

I prefer disks as they engage my thumb the easiest, most securely, and most reliably. I don't mind studs or holes, but prefer studs over holes. Holes are easier to find for me, but my thumb more positively engages studs than holes. My thumb tends to slip on holes...a bad thing when combined with a lockback as the blade draws closed resulting in cuts in my hand. So, my heiarchy is disks, then studs, then holes. I've never had a stud or disk catch in my pocket when removing, but they do catch when closing, which isn't really a problem.
My wife prefers flippers, be it manual or assisted (tho, she likes AO).
