  • Today marks the 24th anniversary of 9/11. I pray that this nation does not forget the loss of lives from this horrible event. Yesterday conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was murdered, and I worry about what is to come. Please love one another and your family in these trying times - Spark

Stuff you can still take on an airplane...

water purification tabs (I put them in My FAK with other meds)

Swiss-tech makes several bladeless multi tools that will get through, security. They are Fairly inexpensive and often in costco, walmart, priceclub etc this time of year in multi packs.

I also pack a pair of EMT shears, these strike a ferro for niceley and can cut better than most knives, for many tasks.

+1 on Swisstech but not all of their gear is kosher with TSA. Please use common sense. I have been wanting to get a Wenger Air Traveler or Clipper AT as well.

BTW: I did once have my trauma shears confiscated. No, it didn't make sense to me either.

You guys know you can put pretty much anything you want in your checked luggage, right? These days it kinda sucks, because you have to shell out $15 to check a bag, but it's worth it to me to have my gear. I usually have to check a bag anyway, because my kid needs so much junk. I never fly with my top-shelf knives though. There's too much danger that some scumbag will pilfer them. :thumbdn:

I once had a TSA agent confiscate a swisstech screwzall. Because nothing says terrorist plot like this:

i got my leatherman micra taken from me last year by tsa..was on my keychain....pissed me off...getting the replacement finally for Christmas this year...i'll be sure not to take it w/ me next time...god knows all the damage one could do w/ that tool

I think Leatherman has a knifeless Kick...

I've flown all over the place with my P-38 on my keychain. I have heard of them taking right after 9/11, but no problems recently. Even if they do, you are only out like fifty cents.

Some of the things I carry are:

Large zip ties
Small roll of 100mph tape or electrical tape
32oz Nalgene stuffed with granola bars
Petzl Zippka
Fire steel
550 cord
Assorted zip-loc bags
Telescopic monopod for camera
Camera
GPS

Ok, here's my secret. In my opinion, it's the one single most useful thing you can carry on an airplane.

A cane.

Not only does it make a great tool for self-defense but they will put you at the head of every line, and will board you first. Don't worry about them asking if you really need the cane. They never do, and I don't even walk like I need the cane.

You can carry your 550 paracord and your orange whistle if you want to, and you'll probably never use them, but having a cane on you at the gate will give you instant results.

If you're afraid of looking like a gimp in public, then it's your loss. Travel once with a cane and see how you're treated. You'll never leave home without it again.

LOL pics or it never happened:D:thumbup: (JK)

Thanks for sharing. I dont have a cain, but now I will be suspicious of people who do and are in the front of every line.:p

I know that I wont really need much of that stuff, but I usually dont pack luggage -so it would be nice to bring the outdoors stuff I use on future trips. This time its christmas so I am checking presents (as well as my knives). I usually store knives where my family live so when I visit they are there for me, but after joining BF I have tons of knew ones to try out.

Im not all to sure what they will let you take anymore.. when i went to mexico.. they took my toothpaste and shampoo cause it was to big. kinda silly i think.

just lost a pair of EMT shears (good thing they are cheap and easy to replace) flying out of melbourne. Had them looked over every other stop, and were told they were exempt, 1. blades under 4 inch 2. blunt tipped. Then the guy told me it was not up for debate, all scissors were not allowed. When asked, he told me, that's always how it has been.
officer discretion gents, officer discretion.
