Went otu small game hunting today with my martin x-200 recurve bow....walked around the wood for a bit came to a nice hard wood section sat down and began making squirrel barks on the back of my hand with in about 5 min one started calling back from behind me I turned my head and he was in the exact wrong place for me to shoot (isn't that the way) I contiuied hiking and kicked up to large does.... and spent the rest of the afternoon stump shooting (I think I have a new hobby, I could go whole day wothout kicking up a bunny but I can always find a stump... THis was my first time using judo points (man they rule)...I got his bow used...It;s a bit dinged up but shoots great Its got some adhesive residue on it probably from some price tags or some sort of tape any idea how to clean it up??? soap and water??? THanks all in all a great day.

Use lighter fluid on a paper towel or clean rag. Rub it gently and it'll come right off.

I love shooting water bottles out to 40 yards with my judos and after a hunt I do the same thing, bring out the judos and bang away. I always hated shooting at archery range targets.

I found that I shoot much better at smaller targets than at the large paper bulls... I hung up a paper target at the range the other day and was shooting crappy groups... but than I pinned up a 4 inch piece of paper and at 20 yards was keeping 6 arow groups of around 5-7 inches which for me is really good... I guess it has to do woth being able to focus more on a smaller target.

very cool riley... stump shooting is a lot of fun.... :D

we do a stump shoot at our local range, the last saturady of every month.. it is a lot of fun... we set 5-7 small 2 in. wooden shims in the ground...( shims, like you would buy at a hardware store..) we all take turns shooting 2 arrows, from varied distances... we used to drill holes in the top and try and shoot through the hole with out breaking the shim...:o it is a challenge.. i've seen a lot of people do it... 3 time world longbow champion larry yien, lives here in S.C... he's done it quite a few times...:oi've done it once, as well as my 9 year old...:) just shooting the shim is very exciting.... i shot 8 the last time we went out... no hole in one though...:(

I don't know about you guys, but I wouldn't touch my longbow with any of that. If it's a wood laminate etc. I would strongly suggest pledge as it is safe and good for the wood too.

that is what i use too.... for the adhesive, i would use a touch of rubbing alcohol... it dries fast...

I would use soap and water first and see how it works for you. I've used pledge to clean our coffee table after building arrows and getting a but of adhesive on it. It took some elbow grease, but it came off without resorting to anything harsher. Rubbing alcohol as a last resort, then clean the bow and shine it up with pledge.

I've used the Judo points some, but prefer the Ace hex head blunts, which are a small game head. When you get ready for hunting big game, do your stumping with the same broadhead you plan on hunting with. Just don't place them in hardwood stumps. Actually, the only stumps that I've put arrows into, are cedar and redwood. They are soft and lessen impact trauma on the arrow, plus it's easier to get the arrow out. Mostly what I shoot at are trash left by others, which I place in a bag and take home, dirt clods, leaves and small bushes. As you gain more experience with the bow, let your imagination take you forward. Choose shots that you have to shoot under, over, or between obstacles to hit the target you have chosen. You might break a lot of arrows at first, but eventually your shooting skills will increase to the point that you might be tempted to take a new dozen of tourney arrows out stumpin. But don't! :D

I have built many hundreds of bows, both self and laminated. Rubbing alcohol, lighter fluid, and Wd-40 arn't going to harm the adhesive or finish on your bow. Well maybe if you soak it over night it mite. clean it. then put lots of wax or furniture polish on it.
Moisture soaking in to the laminations of the wood is what can cause a De-lamination. Wax protects your finish and the finish protects your bow from moisture.

The best stuff I've found for removing sticky label remnants is called TIM Clean (TIM = Thermal Interface Material) made by Akasa. It's sold for cleaning off the thermal compound on CPU heatsinks.

It seems to be orange oil in some petrolium product - probably no different to many other orange oil cleaning products out there.

It's worked on everything I've tried so far and left no marks. I last used it to remove the glue from some really sticky security labels on laptops (they had been donated, not 'appropriated')

Rick.
