A rare opportunity available here to pick up a sleek integral piece from the uber-talented Russ Andrews.
Russ has made very few integrals in his distinguished career, but you'd never guess by this piece. Knives such as this are deceptively simple in concept, but devilishly difficult in execution. This is a knife in its elemental form - any mis-step in lines, proportion or flow are immediately apparent. There are none to be found here. Russ nailed this piece.
The specs are as follows:
* The materials: 1 piece of W2 (1" round bar); 2 pieces of ringed gidgee; 6 stainless steel pins.
* The dimensions: blade 4 3/4", OAL 9 5/8", 5/8" thick at the bolster.
* The sheath - leather over sharkskin inlays, all sole authorship by Russ.
The knife is handled with absolutely primo scales of gorgeous ringed gidgee. There is terrific colour and LOT of chatoyance to the grain of this wood, which this picture taken by Russ captures fairly well:
There is also a very subtle but visible hamon, and of course, that signature glowing satin finish for which Russ is famous.
