Stupid accident with a knife... DOH!

don't feel too bad all of us here have had some pretty dumb accidents. a couple of years ago I stabbed myself on accident with a german nicker knife (I have a one inch scar from that one, went 1 1/2" in my upper thigh). I cut my right finger tip off, third endex, while playing with opening and closing a witchblade with one hand. and not too mention the other "dumb" accidents Ive had.

Your not alone on this!!...your in the right company!!!...lol!!!!
!!!:D

Part duex!;)

Well to fix the problem, I pulled four sheets of kitchen roll from my shelf, folded then quickly and placed them on the wound. I then wrapped the whole lot in parcel tape, and sat with my legs up on a chair while I sat on the floor. Next thing I did was pop some Mettalica on my MD, take slow deep breaths and wipe the blood of the knife. No need for it to suffer for my stupidity. I sat there for about 45 mins and when the real throbbing started I figured the scar tissue was forming. I would normally have washed the wound with water, but it was a REAl bleeder and I did not want to take any further risks with opening the wound more. Also the knife was very clean and about as safe an infection risk as possible.

Well after 45 mins I took the parel tape off YEOW!!! Goodby hair! The kitchen paper was soaked in blood as was a fair part of my leg. However the bleeding was now a trickle and I gingerly wiped the wound with a tissue covered in vinegar... it seemed like a good idea as I had no Iodine to hand:eek:  :D

I saw the wound was actually about 1.5" long and not quite as deep as feared. The part of the leg it hit does not have major arteries near the surface and being a chubby lad, there was little risk. I put on some antiseptic cream and left the wound to seep for a little. Then cleaned it with an antiseptic wipe I found and bandaged it up again. Its healing very nicely now and no need to visit any doctors etc!

I am a trained first aider so I knew to keep calm and not get overly exited about the whole thing. Shock perhaps? Anyhow alls well that ends well and all that!

Cheers!

havnt had too many problems

once i had just sharpened my microchang (awesome knife made by chang from these forums) and i was testing it on an old newspaper. held the paper in my left hand, took a backhand slash at it with the knife in my right, and the tip cut into the top of my thumb, about half a cm from the start of the nail

i was just happy it didnt go too deep, or the top might have been damaged (could have hit bone)

a worse possible one was when i took at swing at an overhanging tree branch with a stiff kiss. it cut through it, and kept travelling and hit me in the right forearm. a very small stab into my forearm, im surprised it didnt do more damage.

and the worst accident i had with a knife was actually with an old utility knife, but just the blade. was cutting a piece of wood, when it slipped and buried itself in my thumb. cut 1 cm into my right thumb. and i had to play the violin the next day..........
