Stupid Knife in Pocket Question

Though I love my Stockmans (men?) and my larger SAKs, I find myself not carrying them too much because they go sideways in the bottom of my pocket and make me crazy. I end up carrying knives with clips (which raise the dickens with the pockets on my dress pants), and/or a small SAK. Has anyone found a solution to this, or am I the only weird one?

Put a line of stitching up from the bottom of your pocket parallel to the side seam to make a little pouch. Your knife won't move around, it won't be seen and you still have the rest of your pocket free.

On the pockets I only use knives with clips. For carrying stuff around I use a bag like this (not this one, just sort of):

And now for the winter I'm going to get one of these:

A few more possibilities:

1. Carry multiple knives/gadgets in your pockets so they can't shift around as much. This won't work if for pants with very large/loose pockets, but for dress slacks, designer jeans, and other pants with moderately sized front pockets it'll help.

2. Get a slipjoint-sized pocket sheath/slip of some sort. I know Knives Ship Free makes these -- search for "PocketSlip" on their website.

3. Wear tighter pants. :p

I have to dress business casual and have the same problem. It's been a great excuse to learn some leather working.

I have 4 knives that I like to rotate. I've made a small open top belt sheath for each one. 2 browns and 2 blacks. The fourth one looks better than the first one.

They're small and seldom ever noticed. Deployment is also faster than reaching into my pocket and trying to discern which is a knife which is a flashlight.

I also usually carry traditional blades so even if the sheep ever do notice they stay dry:)

The best solution I found after decades of carrying a knife was a monkey fist lanyard - you tuck the ball end of the lanyard under your belt and let the knife hang suspended in your pocket, either front or rear, not down at the bottom. It keeps your knife out of the way, allowing easy access to coins, cash, handkerchef, comb, whatever, and it feels weightless because it's suspended, rather than dropping to the bottom of your pocket. I use this method with SAKs and even small Busse fixed blade EDC knives. It's comfortable, but the knife is easily accessable with a slightly firm jerk that slips the monkey fist out from under your belt. No metal clips, no rummaging around for a shifting knife, no telltale "print". You can even use lanyards in a variety of colors to blend in inconspicuously with your suits, chinos, or jeans. If your knife doesn't have an attachment point, use a pocket slip or sheath with an attachment.

First off, get professional help for your issues:eek:;) Then go from there. You can look at some pocket sheaths that will help keep your knife upright in your pocket and they aren't bulky. Look at www.knivesshipfree.com and www.agrussell.com for some of these.

I put my Vic Cadet in the change pocket of my jeans. It makes it easier to access, and it fits perfectly.

Genius!

No Man purses dude - well maybe if they have a pistol and a small fixed blade or folders + bug out gear inside. j/k:D...carry your man purse with pride....to each his own. :)

Here is what I use, it is long but it is easy enough to remove links to get a desired length. Just wrap it around your belt or belt loop and your good to go :). Edited to add, it obviously will not work if the knife doesn't have a ring on it.

You might try a pocket sheath. It will hold the knife vertical in your pocket. I've tried them and they work fine. I don't normally use them because the sideways-bottom-of-the-pocket thing has never been an issue to me.

I'm the same way, if a slipjoint isn't in a belt pouch, it drives me crazy and I will end up leaving it behind (on a day to day basis) or put it in a pack (outdoorsy type stuff).

for my leatherman I got a carabiner clip. when I put it in my pocket I clip the top part of the carabiner to the top part of my pocket and push it all the way to the side. It work pretty well, keeps it straight up and out of the way. Any sort of hook will work

Eh eh... I used to think like that before I started to use this... no more heavy pockets, forgotten keys, mobile phones, pens, flashlight, multi-tool... if you name it "bug out bag" instead of "purse" it becomes cool  instantly :D

I totally agree. It was a joke but maybe not. European men may be a little more in touch and comfortable with these sexuality stereotype issues. I'm not - I wouldn't be caught dead with one. There's even a big insurance company's TV commercial, where the insurance lady makes a crack about the man carrying his wife's purse and he squirms while she explains that it's a "so and so European shoulder bag." Whatever works for you man!

I support your right to carry a "whatever" bag! :D

 That is a great idea. This particular problem is the reason what I carry folders with a clip. I get annoyed easily when I have a knife at the bottom of my pocket and it goes sideways. The only slipjoint knives I have a re small mini trappers and micro trappes from Case. These fit into the coin/watch pocket easily. The larger folder rides in the FRP at all times. In addition, there are just some things that a slipjoint cannot handle (cardboard/clam packs) so a larger folder is a must for me at work.
