Stupid Knife in Pocket Question

Umm you might not want to call your man purse b-o-b, Someone might think it's your roommates name. Just kidding. I also have to dress for business and had the missus stitch a 3 inch vertical stitch in my right pocket about an inch and a half from the inside leg part of the pocket. My knife is about 4 inches and it is easy to grab and retrieve and doesn't move around or go horizontal. It is also invisible in normal business slacks this way. I had a longer stitch but then it was difficult to get the knife out unobtrusively.

The watch pocket of my jeans is where I've always kept my Stock knives and most all my other slipjoints 4 inches closed and under. Very easy access to your knife and it stays put at the ready..

..However, If you're dead set on EDC'n your slipjoints in your regular pants pockets then you got to go with a Buckaroo sheath and that'll solve your problem..

Be sure that your pocket clip is properly deburred. The stamping process by which pocket clips are produced leaves drag burrs on the inside of the clip. The presence of a burr can be tested for with an old nylon stocking. Remove the clip and deburr if necessary with a small file.

Anyone know where you can get one of those small folding knife sheaths like the ones that come with most of the William Henry knives?

They are similar to the ones sold at knivesshipfree, only they have a lowriding clip on the sheath. I'd love to get just the sheath, without having to spend a grand for one of W. Henry's beautiful knives.

the change pocket might work, but I always just carry my SAK on a keychain with my keys. it's a SAK executive so it's very small, so I don't have the same issue that you do, though.

It's just a matter of habit. I like to carry a slippie lying flat at the bottom of a pocket. I put it in my left front pocket underneath my wallet. Easy to get to but otherwise I don't notice it's there.

Great suggestions all the way around. I think I'm going to try a pocket sheath first--it looks to me like it would be the most adaptable, going from pants to pants. Thanks everyone.

I think I have the best solution. Unless you have an abnormally small or large wallet this should work for you:

1. Put your wallet in your pocket so that its longer side is up and down.
2. slide your slippie right in next to it so that it is also up and down right beside your wallet.

there ya go! Again, unless you have some kind of extra large or small wallet this should work for keeping it vertical on the side of your wallet.

The "man purse" is an unfortunate name. Men used to carry these all the time. They were called "possibiles" bags, among other names. For the things you might possibly need like a patch knife, powder, tobacco and pipe, patches, etc.

When I lived in N.Y.C. cars were a pain in the behind. I took the train everywhere and many men carried bags, pouches, packs, etc.

Good suggestions on how to carry a knife without using the clip or that does not have one.

If you wear a belt have a look at the large Benchmade soft sheath. It
is the perfect size for a large stockman or other slipjoint, gets it out
of your pocket and looks like some kind of cell phone accessory. I
use them to eliminate the damned pocket clip, but they are ideal
for carrying any folder in this size range.

It was on The Hangover:

"Indiana Jones had a satchel." :)

Though I love my Stockmans (men?) and my larger SAKs, I find myself not carrying them too much because they go sideways in the bottom of my pocket and make me crazy. I end up carrying knives with clips (which raise the dickens with the pockets on my dress pants), and/or a small SAK. Has anyone found a solution to this, or am I the only weird one?

Here's my solution to your problem, yep:

A vertical seam sewn parallel to the edge of your back pocket, just wide enough to accommodate the knife of your choice. It works for me.

Have you thought about sewing a ... just kidding.

A quick and easy solution could be a bandana/hankerchief folded and positioned to keep the knife vertical.

I generally carry my Victorniox OHT in the same pocket as my cell phone. The two of them side by side keep each other vertial most of the time.
