Stupid Question?

Super new to all of this, so please forgive me if this seems to be a dumb question. I know I can search around for an answer wither here or on google or whatever, but I find you get the best answers from people who actually know what they are talking about and sometimes that is hard to discern.

So I ordered my first pc of steel (1084) and while I wait for it to be delivered I want to get started making some kind of heat treating station.

I have seen that I can do it with charcoal, and that would probably be the simplest way but I think I want to have a go at a small propane forge.

I watched a video on creating a "coffee can forge" and that seems to suit my needs for the moment, but my question was more about the heat source.

Would a regular MAPP GAS torch be good enough? Do I need a specific tip/torch head?

If I wanted to make a larger propane forge, what type of propane head would be ideal/most common?

thanks!

one that works surprisingly well is the Harbor Freight weed burner torch.
I find it has excellent temperature control and it's quite efficient in using less propane
Tai Goo turned me on to this.

I use the same in a smaller forge I made for small and folder blades.
I suspect it will work in a larger forge as well

you can also try hybridburners.com

My current forge I use a HF grass burner. I'm in the process of upgrading my forge right now.

The one I started with was a bernzomatic ts4000 a buddy let me have.
You might check out the burners Atlas mini forge sells, really good solid setup.
Or just bight the bullet and pick up his forge, you will like it a lot.

The Atlas forges are damned nice, and the company is very good.
